This letter has hit the dealership in the past couple of days...no one was aware about this or any other delay of this magnitude. |

The letter included by the OP states "a limitation in production". That could mean, for example, that capacity is unable to meet demand so that MY 2016 introduction in Canada has been delayed to compensate. There is nothing in the letter related to emissions. Shaw, you stated; "Did you really think that the marketing campaigns would bluntly announce it as such??!!!". Do you have a link to these marketing announcements? I've been unable to find anything searching online and, conversely, bmwusa.com still lists the 2016 X5 35d. bmw.ca, however, lists only 2015 MY for a number of models, not just diesel. |

Do folks think that if those placing 2016 cars don't want 2015 spec (nor to change model) that the production schedules may need to be shuffled a bit to keep the line going, with potentially wider implications?

i think because of this, bmw should put incentives on the left over 2015 diesels... Theres absolutely no cash back on any 15 x5s.. but there are on 16s.. makes no sense

how come they are still able to manufacture a 2015 if you want it, but not a 2016?! I can get my car to be built on the same slate and time if I choose to go for a 2015 (with exact configuration and options as of order guide 2016) if I choose to? and that applies to everyone who has placed a 2016 diesel order...they can get their vehicles in time, but not a 2016 tag...does that make sense to you if that was a limitation in production? |

As others have also pointed out, there can be a number of reasons for a production delay. Where is the information that this delay has to do with emissions? I note that on both bmwusa.com and bmw.ca you can 'build' 2016 diesels, e.g. a 3 series, contrary to an emissions issue applying to all diesels that was indefinitely delaying 2016 availability. Finally, what is a "2016 tag", do you mean, perhaps, a production number? |

Then BMW should be courteous and offer the 1,500 build credit towards the 2015 X5 diesel! I want that credit on my order right now like the 2016 BMW X5 gasoline...

When I placed my order back in July, I considered waiting for a 2016. The dealer, back then, knew that the 2016 diesel's were going to be delayed at least until the end of 2015 due to a change in the engine to run a higher percent of bio-diesel. Not sure why the VW issue really has any effect on BMW's diesels considering they passed the testing that VW failed.
I picked up my X5d in July and currently have 6800 miles on the odometer. I love the fact that I fill up the tank and I don't see the pump again for almost 2 weeks, where before I was at the gas station twice a week. |

To me the fact they can produce 2015 models goes to show its perhaps nothing to do with emissions and more to do with any number of other reasons that can affect production for a specific market.... |

This seems to only affect US & Canada?
I have a 2016 build European spec. 30d diesel and haven't heard anything? They are all built in us, so I wonder whats causing it? |

Is 535d also affected? If not rules out engine specifically but other X5 diesel components not sure. I'm with everyone else this is a component shortage specific to NorAm models. |

Asked my contact at the dealer and he said that there are restrictions on parts specific to 2016 diesel that can not be fulfilled.
Once they solve that issue, they will resume 2016. if this is the case, that would explain that you can get 2015 with same "options" but not 2016. I suspect that they are making engine changes either for efficiency or the bio-diesel. |

I am a bit confused about these news here. The BMW pricing guide posted on this forum shows that the MY 2016 Diesel is available starting 12/2015.
I was always under the impression that if I wanted a 2016 Diesel (which I do), I need to wait until December at least to get one.

I see. I was told by my dealer several months ago that the MY 2016 X35d will not be built before the end of December 2015 anyway and we should order one not before end of November. There seems to be conflicting information out there.....

The fact that it was stopped is a different subject than the starting date of 2016 manufacturing. |

Note that there was a difference between the timeline between Canada vs US.
The US order guide came in June stating December production. (i.e. Jan delivery) Canada's guide came months after and stated November production (i.e. Dec delivery) Now, BMW Canada is pushing off the production. Has anybody seen similar statement from BWM US? |

Anybody heard when they may be restarting the diesel production?
Dealer says it's been indefinitely stopped. |

I'll check with my dealer in the US. Lets see what he says, but I wouldn't hold my breath that they know. More than once, I had to explain stuff to them.....

Does anyone know if this will affect EU models, especially the m50d. I have ordered one that is a november delivery, it has to be a 2016 build at least that is what my dealer said in the beginning but now I am a bit worried.

Really glad we leased our 2015 X5d here (US). Ordered early October, delivered mid-October exactly as we wanted it.
LOVE it, and couldn't wait longer. Plus, as a leased vehicle I don't really care if it's a 2015 or 2016. It's not ours after 36 months regardless. For all you waiting on a 2016, I hope it all works out. |
