Blind Spot Detection Retrofit

Folks,
Have you been done the Blind Spot Detection Retrofit in a F15? I would like to do it. I do have the mirrors with the triangles, Kafa2, rear sensors and brackets (all OEM purchased from different sources but didn't come with the car)...but I do not know what kind of connectors/ wire and switch I have to buy to connect them. For the coding I already know someone who can help me. Any contribution will be really appreciated.
BTW: I do have the EU wide-angle mirrors, but I also want the "electronic" alternative.

Sorry for off-topic, mind share the EU wide-angle mirrors purchasing link?

Sounds like you have most of the gear so you may as well go ahead with it, but I will say that the system is mostly useless. At least from the perspective of noticing the triangle signal. On my SQ5 it was much larger and simpler to see with a flash if you tried to merge into a vehicle within range.

Ebay...purchased both entire mirrors, with cameras, triangles, heat, auto dimming, and the wide-angle.

Looks more involved. Cables/Harnesses are in bottom, but these look to be additional components:

FYI. My blind side detection is not reliable. It only turns on when I'm close the other cars or if its an oversized car. Wonder if the sensitivity can be turned up.

Thanks Matt! I do have surround view, so just need the cable. But which one of them is the right one? And how should have to be connected? Sensors in one end, and the other end to...?

My pleasure. Please click the links above and select the applicable features /options and the site shows you the specific parts. For cables, here for instance: http://www.etk.cc/bmw/EN/search/sele...SA/61/61_3637/

As for connections and doing the actual work, I am quite useless. You will need input from one of the handy members. That said, as far as I can tell no one has ever done what you have embarked upon.

I advise you learn the coding as well. You may have to re code after every firmware (not iDrive firmware) for the car.

My biggest complaint with the system is that the amber LED triangle is too dim especially with sun behind you. If you have access, and figure out a way to replace the LED chip that would be good info.

X15 Retrofit

Hello, just recently got into a X15, would like to add the Blindspot mirrors and option - did you find a way to make this happen? Did it require coding and such? From reading it sounds like it may have been a difficult upgrade, not sure if this is an option or not at this phase..

I've been doing some research on the F15 BS retrofit, plenty of people seem to be doing this outside the US but not many detailing it here in the states. I did find the following for the f30:
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1238969

From a few messages I've got from coders the FEM is identical on the F15 but I can't seem to get wiring diagrams as of yet. Also unclear if I'd have to run wires from the FEM to mirrors to control the LEDS, maybe the harness has the signal wires & the new mirrors would have the connection/pins?

The work here seems doable to be honest, would be interesting to tackle ACC as well - but that appears to be more involved with the DSC module replacement.

Anyone with experience here on the F15?

thx

Sorry to revive an old thread but I have time to do some work on the 2014 X5 and am interested in getting blind spot detection.
1) Does my X5 have the sensors; hence only a coding change is required?
2) If I have to get an aftermarket system, are there any recommendations. I have read that the Brandmotion system is not compatible with BMW because i have an auto-start-stop function.

Old thread, but no answers. I got both rear radars ready to bolt, and both mirrors which already on. Everytime opening car both triangles blinks, meaning there is some communication with car. I can't find wiring diagrams and required connectors for radars. I have f10 with BS and it's useless, but when searching on ebay i came accros mirror glass for f15 with triangles on the glass itself, does that mean that at some point bmw decided to do triangles on the glasses instead of the mirror side?

For starters an F15 has no FEM like an F30 but a BDC. As far as i saw it has no brackets either, so i think the module holders are somehow behind the rear bumper. As for parts, steeringwheel with vibrator, mirrors with triangle, master and slave, the wiring and coding

The in-mirror warning triangles are on the next model X5 (G05) - they are same size as F15 and should swap easily.
I'm working on this now on a 2018 F15 (which has the pale amber triangle warnings).
Identifying the cables and plugs has been the hardest part.
I'll post a write up and photos when I get everything and proceed.

did you swap mirror glass from the G05 in the F15?

Been considering doing this retrofit on my F15 and thought it was going to be easy since the car already has lane change detection from factory (the two orange lines on the dash and steering feedback). Makes no sense why it has no blind spot detection. I thought the hardware is the same for both features. I recently added triangle light on the mirror when updating the trim to F85 mirror, but there was no connection for blind spot triangle on the mirror wiring harness. I have blind spot detection on my F86, and while it's not that great, it's better than nothing at all.

There's a post in the f30 forum with a DIY tutorial. How different it would be for the F15, I don't know. Anyone know?
