Haters everywhere. Some are bolder than others, it seems.

Previously had an M5 and before that an X5M (2012)
A few months ago I took delivery of a X5 3.5 with the MPPK on it. Was hesitant because I though I may miss the power--but very pleasantly surprised. I am finding the engine to be silky smooth with plenty of power. On top of that the Gas mileage seems much much better than my past two BMWs. Could be that "I am over" the sensation of an overpowered daily driver and so just not as "wow'd" by the super fast dailies anymore. If would definitely make the same decision if given the choice again. Not that you can go wrong with a 50---but definitely worth giving the 3.5 a solid audition if you are not sure. |

I love the roar of the 50i, but am sad about gas mileage. I am getting less than 400kms per tank of gas and this is driving on comfort mode 95% of the time without being spirited. It's only at 2500km so I will give it time.

If you ever feel the need to save gas just use ECO-Pro mode and configure it to use Coasting. I was able to stretch a FULL tank to ~450 miles!! My wife started asking me why I was driving so slow! I told her I was experimenting with the ECO-Pro mode. I mostly switch between Eco, Comfort and Sport when I commute.

I have the 50i and let me tell you THE POWER of the engine is incredible! The gas consumption is more but not a lot more, the cold start sound is amazing, I wish I could hear that sound every time I switch it on and not only in the mornings LOL!

I had a 2014 3.5i and now a 2017 5.0i, simply put, there's no comparison between the two, the 3.5i was adequate but the 5.0i is a beast, love to have all that power available and the sound is intoxicating. Mileage is better than on my wife's Cayenne S.

I'm getting about 400kms (250miles) per tank in my 2017 50i. I'm really curious if this is normal before I get the car checked out. Is that the same with everyone else's?

I'm not a very spirited driver. But I do give it the gas from time to time. I also drive a lot of highway models. But it does sound like that is a pretty big disparity. |

I'm trying to test it by not being a spirited driver. However, I do live downtown so 99% of my driving is city driving. I just can't imagine it only giving me less than 250miles on a tank even if it is a V8. My F32 i6 was able to give me 310+ miles on a full tank with city driving. I have to figure this out soon.

I only get 16-17 MPG in spirited, mixed driving on my '16 50i. It's a thirsty beast, particularly around town.

Your V8 gets better mileage than my inline 6. I'm getting 17.5 gallons per mile driving 80% highway in sport mode.

On the low side I've seen 250 miles. Usually I'm working with 400 miles a tank. On the high side I've seen 500+.

If your really doing 99% city driving, your mileage seems completely plausible.

I guess it is plausible and I'm having a hard time swallowing the reality of a 150 mile difference from the two vehicles (f32 vs f15). I know my 2001 pathfinder LE v6 with a 75 litre tank only got my 450kms (approx 285 miles?) and compared the f15 to that. Oh well. I will have to see in the next few years. Maybe I need a smart car..

City mileage with the 50 is pretty terrible with the transmission's tendency to dislike smooth/low power starts. Combined mileage is only really saved with highway driving.
I get about 19mpg (combined) with mostly highway driving. Works out to about 400 miles per tank. I've seen as low as 10-12mpg when driving in the city. |

You would be an IDEAL candidate for the 40e. Assuming access to an outlet - you would almost never have to buy gas.

Unfortunately in my underground parking there basically are no plug ins except for 1 about 3 stalls down. Unfortunately the Ferrari and Lamborghini has hogged it.
