BC setting? Stay in compass mode?

Okay, after driving the car for about a month and set everything to my liking...

Is there a way to keep compass on the BC instead of the miles to empty? Everytime I restart it defaults back to miles to empty and I had to hit BC to set it back to compass.

I like to drive without my gps on the main screen if I'm not using NaV but loves to know my heading.

Mine remembers the previous setting each time I turn off / start the vehicle. I usually use instant fuel economy or km's to empty.

My 2015 remembers the previous setting, but not if the compass is selected.

Ditto. Verified this as well on my '15 after I stopped at a Rest Area earlier today. Had the BC set to compass when we pulled into the RA. Once we resumed our way, I believe it reverted to "no setting" on the BC.

You can set the compass on your main screen by using split screen.

2015, turns off he compass to just empty space when I come back to my car next day. If I leave it other info, it sticks. I don't know why BMW removed the compass indicator from mirror or did not make compass a persistent info, at least give us the direction we are traveling at the corner of big screen next to clock and signal strength. I still like the compass on dash better because how it flows with rest of the dials.

Anyone with '17? Is it same behavior?

Same behavior on '14-'17.

Was hoping with new iDrive system, they upgraded the dash.
Any chance of seeing all digital cluster in '18 models? Come on BMW, surprise us. I wonder if compass is persistent on LED cluster.

'17 has new head-unit, but cluster hardware is the same.

There are plenty of conversations on G30 forums complaining of hybrid digital display. I personally do not really care as I look at HUD and never the dash.

Now I wish we could code direction/compass indicator to HUD. You still have to look elsewhere for the compass. I also don't look at the dash as much, but it would be nice to have the all digital cluster standard or at least as option. PS: I thought G30's digital cluster was different than what F15's got (like the ones in Canada)

I think the compass looks nice, but I always know which direction is north.

I think this only works on the newest generation of iDrive. The prior one doesn't have a compass setting for the split screen (though you technically can get compass functionality by running nav maps on the split screen).

Which year is that M5?
It's very different than the 6WB cluster F15/F16's get.

It's odd they went from More screen to Less screen.
I signed up but this year UDE will be too late for me to get my credit, last time was 3 yrs ago in NY, was a bit earlier if I remember correctly.

Confirmed the compass behavior on my 17 X5 last night. Wonder why this one does not stick, all the other BC selections seem to?

Same here for my 16. I'm guessing this is a coding error. Anyone know coding well enough to figure this out?

6WB has been around for over 3 yrs I believe, it was full LCD with only crescents around dials, but the one you shared has mile markers and other indicators on the plastic gauges

I am not sure which one is better, but people complained about the resolution of 6WB when it came out, and I drove an X6 with that cluster and it was just fine.

With all this technology BMW still cannot make a simple compass to stay on screen, and don't get me started on lack of heated steering wheel indicator anywhere other than a tiny button which you can't see easily. I was hoping coding could enable that, but it wasn't an option.
