2017 X5 F15 x35 M Sport MPPK problem
Has anyone heard of any issues with the 2017 X5 M Sport vehicle software having issues with loading the MPPK option? I took my new X5 to dealer last week to have this option installed. What was suppose to be 1-2 hr wait turn into all day. The dealer ended up putting me into a loaner car. That was last Thursday, May 25th and I still have the loaner. The dealer told me that they cannot get the software to load correctly. When they load the software, it will then not allow the car to crank. After several tries, they got the car to crank, but then the Navigation and XM radio will not work. They said they have contacted BMW Germany and that this is a known issue with the latest software in the X5. I am still waiting to hear back from them and how long it will take to fix. Let me know any anyone has heard of this and the fix.

One owner has recently had the MMPK software installed three times. The first two at his BMW Center of choice did not take. The third attempt was successful.

Yup, that owner was me. Difference was at least they told you it didn't code properly, instead of letting you drive off until I asked for proof that there were no error codes. Then they told me to come back in and yes, it took a day for them to get it right. It can be coded properly on the new software, as I'm now sporting the MPPK and its night and day before and after. Hope it works out, don't accept it as coded until the sport displays show 400.

Make sure that the VIN number is correct. I had an issue with mine and it was because the dealer had the wrong VIN number for the software.

Had it installed prior to delivery in my '17. They ended up postponing delivery a day and kept it overnight to complete the install. Turned out they transposed some digits on my vin so couldn't get the auth code to go through from BMW. |

oh I don't doubt it's great I was trying to determine if there is a bugaboo with the '17s which mine is.

My 2017 X5 35i is having the MPPK installed right now - should be finished in another couple of hours.
I'll report back with how the install went and a very prelim report on how it drives. |

It will be worth the wait. A few home chores have me inside for a few more hours - will get out later today to further explore how the MPPK performs. The "drivability" factor was fine on my brief drive home. Off the line in Sport mode I had to go easier on the throttle - clearly more throttle response - no complaint though

most of the time I drive around in comfort mode, I find it very driveable and the throttle not too touchy, not too soft/laggy. hopefully it doesn't change that feel.
now when you say wow. what do you mean? big change? feel anything like the 50i wow factor?

My "WOW" comment was the total package - well balanced / improved throttle response / improved acceleration for sure (though not like the 50i, sorry) / and an overall sense of sportiness. More detail once I get more miles under my belt.
I also have the DHP on board, so the driving experience is really quite impressive for an inline 6 and such a heavy vehicle. |

Well, I was able to defer a few of the house chores and get some more serious driving miles with the MPPK installed.
I'm afraid my initial reaction was not as accurate as I thought now that I have put it through a more demanding test. The test run involved a short stretch of suburban driving, a sharp on-ramp to merge with 80MPH traffic, a stretch of divided four lane with opportunity to pass higher speed traffic and then the real change was a good quality two lane road (no traffic) undulating up and down with 30 - 40 degree turns left and right. Some of the curves were undulating up pretty steeply. These really challenged the X5. I've got to collect my thoughts for a bit to be more accurate on the limitations of the MPPK. |

So, my thoughts have been collected - wow was not accurate enough.
DOUBLE WOW ++ If you run an X5 35i DHP and MPPK are the most impressive options to add IMO. |

OK - back in...
Drivability in comfort mode is fine - no jerkiness / over sensitive throttle response Pulls harder from the line with normal (not hammering it) accelerator input In Sport mode - clearly pulls harder - triple digits before you know it - very linear acceleration - exactly what I was hoping for from the in-line 6 I could not discern any significant change to the exhaust note from the driver's seat. That is a good thing for me Shift points are higher and still quite smooth - as another poster mentioned it just brings the X5 alive :-) Decals are very subtle - may yet install them. I'm not sure how to quantify it, but my impression is that while the 50i is more powerful, real world driving conditions might bring these two closer together than one would think. What I sense is that if the 35i could not pull off the maneuver in question there are few instances where the 50i could safely do it. DHP + MPPK = |
