Anyone know or have a sense whether a self-install or indi-install of the m performance brake upgrade kit will void its warranty or, worse, affect the broader warranty for the car?

Thanks. D

it would void the warranty only if they can show the brakes failed because of install. however, since they won't be F15 from the factory they will search from a service ticket for the install and if they find they didnt do it then they will do their best to not cover it. it will have no affect on overall warranty of car.

Thanks Mav. That was my guess. I've decided to go with a dealer install so I get a warranty for parts and labor -- plus, I don't have the equipment for a proper DSC brake bleed. Surprisingly, indie quote was about the same price as dealer.

One potential hitch, I did not buy the car or the kit from the local dealer -- first BMW in 10 years I have not purchased from them; they would not deal.

A quick update: everything seems to be fine, except I got tired of that ///M squealing pad noise. I think it only happens if you have f85 drilled rotor. So I'm looking now to swap my oem m pads (still 50% left) onto some softer pads - hoping noise will go away.
Read multiple threads and still no consensus on that squealing issue. A lot of opinions that "that's a ///M noise and get used to it (like all big brakes have it)". I'm still going to go for Bosch pads I found, hoping that cheaper pads will be softer and will stop that noise.

If the new pad doesn't help get rid of the squealing, the root cause may be the drilled rotor. I will be more than happy to help you to trade your handsome F85 rotor with the plain MPBK rotor. This is what friend are for.

I had been trying to order EBC GD1813 front rotor from Autoanything for the past few months. They keep canceling the order and said that back order from manufacturer with no confirm shipping date. I am going to give them one more months before I going to order F85 rotor.

I went with freemax blanks and have no squealing. They don't look as pretty but I love that they have no annoying sounds

When did it start to squeal?

My experience: when you wash the wheels and disks make sure you wash out the soap or whatever cleaner you are using (wash it off very well).

Shortly after I installed them. Pads are oem ones, but they are used - the ones that came when I bought calipers. They were inside the calipers - so just reused them since about 60-70% of pad life was left. I'll order Bosch pads and I'll see if that will help. Also, it gets hot here 106F today. Maybe hot climate has something to do with it? Or maybe it's F85 drilled rotors - I've heard F85 owners complain too. Porsche even wrote a semi-scientific article explaining why bigger brakes will always be noisier and that it's normal apparently lol. I myself believe it's due to drilled F85 rotors - I probably need a softer pad (maybe with ceramic compound rather than semi-metallic pads). Not sure.

Ya I've seen the Porsche video but that really only applies to their system or at least certainly not all BBK as I've never had squealing on my AMG with brembo 6/4 set up with oem drilled rotors and slot drilled 2 piece rotors from racing brake. I agree it may have to do with the F85 rotor design. I'll be installing my F85 set up this fall I think so we'll have to see. Fingers crossed.

I have F85 rotors zero squeal, already 4-5k on them. F85 owners say a strong pressure wash through the rotors will clean it out and help with squeal. Just saying what i read. I had first generation m performance brakes on E92 and they squealed and (then) replaced on warranty twice. My mechanic told me that i should wash off the cleaner (at that time used sonax) and it would not squeal. Afterwards I still often washed the car (E92) and always cleaned it as advised and zero squeal. Now that I have "performance" brakes with F85 rotors I do the same. Also apparently the "newer" performance brake pads for F15 have a different part number than before so perhaps they changed that too. You can also try break-in process explaind here on F15 forum. Hope I was helpful.

turns out its the pads because they're not chamfered. How did bmw think this would be ok a street car is beyond me but chamfered pads is a must in this day and age.

With that said has anyone done this upgrade and did the coding themselves? don't see anything on the coding threads on it.

Holy crap finally opened the boxes up from eBay of the F85 calipers and good god they're massive. Like half way up my leg when vertical massive. Pics to come shortly.

I do slightly regret getting them I will say. Sooooo many more options for pads for the MPBK. And these F85 pads are ENORMOUS. But oh well. Once I get them powder coated it will all look sick.

Congrats man! I just had the MPBK installed last week. I swapped out the kit rotors with the F85's front and rear as well. After all the reading on this forum on the squealing and brake dust, I ditched the OEM pads from the start and went with CarboTech's. I have about a 1000 miles on them and love them. No squeal and extremely low brake dust. Great bite when it comes to fast stops.

I just washed my wheels yesterday for the first time since the install and I was quite impressed with how clean they were even with a new break in. The price is a little hefty. For whatever reason most sites advertising the fronts still has the old pricing so there is a little price shock once you get the actual cost. IMO though, I'll pay that cost to not deal with squealing and dust. Good luck with your build/install of the kit.

What cost did the Carbotech run you? They're like $300 aren't they? That's what their website says for the E70 X5M

Carbotech's site still states around $300 so that's what you see vendors listing them for. I ordered from 1 site at $298 for the front and $154 for the rear. The vendor came back and said that Carbotech raised their prices on the front pad and didn't notify them. They would not honor the advertised price or give a discount so I canceled the order.

I went to another vendor and this time requested a quote stating what I saw on their website. They too contacted Carbotech and told me the list price is now much higher. However, this dealer gave me small discount so I got the fronts for $440 and the rear for $158.

The new list price for the X5M fronts is $498! No idea why they went up $200.

Jesus. And that's the MPBK not the F85 X5M right?
