LOVE it, and couldn't wait longer. Plus, as a leased vehicle I don't really care if it's a 2015 or 2016. It's not ours after 36 months regardless.

For all you waiting on a 2016, I hope it all works out.
I was saying the same thing about leasing it and not caring whether its a 2015 or a 2016, but the more I think about it the more it bothers me that in November I will be picking up a 2015 model, it will be a year old in just over a month of having it. Also, the 36 month term gives a ridiculously high payment here in Canada, so I went with a 48 month term and that freaks me out even more. Starting to think this X5 isn't for me...

I also don't get a warm and fuzzy feeling knowing theres something going on and no one can explain what it is or why it is happening.

I think BMW will have to step up and offer some crazy incentives in order to get people to order 2015 models in the last quarter of 2015.

That was exactly my thinking for not wanting the 2015. As soon I receive it, it is an old model (it even intensifies as we are owning it and not leasing).
My wife was saying something logical today which basically closed the deal for me on diesel. She said no matter what's happening (whether shortage, diesel under test, aftermath of VW,...) whatever it is, the fact is that right now diesel is under microscope and under a lot of scrutiny. even if diesel starts production next week, she doesn't want it for now...90% of cars are gasoline and we can be part of that...given that we own the car, this conversation is a bit foggy, even if it Is because of shortages...whatever happens with diesel talks, we would be pulled under with it.
Whenever the dust settles we will evaluate our options on the next vehicle.
The only thing I regret right now is not having 40e in Canada yet. Dealer says it only starts as of next year. Otherwise that would have been my first choice now.
Oh well, I'm waiting for the X7 anyways.

Well the thing is buy what you like and fits your needs. Don't worry about what others think or their positive or negative opinion of your vehicle. They frankly can go pound sand. If you can get a deal because of this nonsense then all the better for the buyer. For us we were looking to do an X5d because of taking long trips and the usual stops at Home Depot to buy stuff. In our area diesel runs .25-.30 cheaper than premium gas anyway so there is that plus the longer running range of the vehicle.

You're 100% correct...
But everything plays a role when you think resale...I can't predict what will happen with diesel in 2-3 years from now when we decide to change our vehicle...

You cannot lease a 2016 X5 for more than 36 months currently in Canada. A 48 month lease is only available on a 2015 X5. If you were getting a 48 month lease in Canada on a 2016 F15 X5 let me know who your dealership is because I'll tear a new one out of my sales guy at Parkview.

It's a 2015..that was the point of my post. I went with a 2015 because you can do a 48 month lease on a 2015 but you can only do 36 months on a 2016.

Sorry, misread it. My apologizes. The 36 month lease was a sore spot for me but I went with it anyways.

Wow... I have an order placed for Australia due to be delivered in Feb, build November apparently, so it'd be a 2016.

I've contacted the sales guy to see if he knows anything.

I have a diesel. I love the diesel feel. At this point, I'd wait until and get a 2016. You'd want any fog over the model year and diesel lifted.

Although I already have my 40d, Ive spoken to my sales guy who I have known a long time and trust. There are no known issues or delays with models coming across the pond to the UK. I have a colleague who has a 40d on order and its still sitting in the system at the same production week as when she ordered.

I asked one particular dealer about this and he was completely unaware.

In fact, I think he said it was 'rubbish'.

I think it is only affecting North America.

I agree, but the issue is the indefinite timing as we don't know how long we should be waiting...wifey needs her car...especially that we are entering the lovely time of the year, with Mr. Frost!

Hi Shaw,

What is the source of the image you posted? I talked to a couple of dealers in Australia and apparently they don't know anything and are suspicious of the legitimacy of the screenshot.

Canada is affected...my order as well.
It is legit, but may not be everywhere.

Found it interesting that it clearly states the worldwide production is affected.

Thanks for sharing.

It does say, But I'm not sure about the other countries.
I know US doesn't have their diesel 16 orderable either.

What is also interesting is only x35d is highlighted, i.e. x25d/x30d/x40d/x50d are not mentioned. This is interesting because x35d is only sold in NA so even if it says worldwide, the notice only applies to NA spec cars and not global x5 diesel models.

If you really do keep your cars for only 2 or 3 years you are such a prime candidate for leasing... after you drive your diesel for the 2 to 3 years you don't have to worry about resale!

you're right, but I never lose much capital by reselling my vehicle as much as I would have had, had I gone lease.
In the leasing scenario, you are pretty much locked with the market values and the dealership more so than if you would sell the vehicle yourself.

To me this is a benefit, not a detriment, of leasing

Sale on the private market = you have yourself a relationship with someone whether you want to or not (if you sell private party).
