Goodbye X5

It was a very difficult decision but I thought I'd try something else while I wait for X5 redesign and for X7 to come out.
We've come to end of 3 year lease.

It wasn't easy walking out of the dealer leaving my beautiful X5 behind, after 3 years it still runs like new, extremely reliable problem free 25k miles, not a single complaint with the vehicle.

I am going to miss it, and will be looking at the new X's 2,5yrs later for sure.

I've been telling my self I'll take some pictures before I drop it off, but I didn't have a chance.

I had some pictures from the day I picked it up here:

Personally I'm eyeing that Mercedes G63 when the new one comes out. Probably should have bought that in the first place even though I love the X5 also.

4 inches wider and sits lower. Becoming much sportier now. I think MB listened to one of the biggest concerns - bad driving dynamics of the G, but it's also expected because it's an off-roading truck.

I have a hard time imagining the X looking nicer than the outgoing one. It's so nice already!

I have mine listed at a local dealer. Just hoping someone buys it before any more info is released about the "new" one. Also sad to see it go. Been a great car.

This is a great site, and it's been an amazing 6,5 yrs after 2 X5s. I learned so much from you guys and some of you went above and beyond to help me and others, it's like a family.

I'll still lurk time to time, especially once new X's start dropping in.

I am still attending the UDE in Citi Field this friday so if anyone will be there, I'd love to say hi. It's going to be mixed emotions but I love driving that 7 series around town, as well as getting a chance to push diesel 5 series on curves, I hope they'll have diesel demos this year like they did last time.

That Q7 is solid! Definitely looking to get that on top of the x5d. How do you like it so far?

Best of luck with the Q7! I've always loved Audi and the Q7 was a top contender, but ultimately the styling and proportions of the X5 won it for me.

Let us know how it compares to the X5 when you get more settled in.

Making a list as we go, and as I notice things, it definitely suffers from some of the German quirks BMW suffered so you would definitely feel at home with some of those coming from X5. Will discuss once I have enough juicy info.

Yes, it's definitely is bigger and shows it size inside and out.

Hey hyde what's your opinion on going plug-in hybrid (be it Q7 (if they have any available at the moment) or any other car)? I'm just very interested in peoples opinion about whether or not it's time to slowly move into cars capable of at least some strictly EV range? Toyota said by 2040 (in 22 years it will completely stop producing ANY ICE (gas or diesel) - and Toyota is a mainstream top company - basically that will be the end of ICE

I didn't test drive them enough to have much opinion, but one thing I know, they need to increase the battery capacity for sure, or don't mess with the engine. 15 to 30 miles range on 40eDrive is just not acceptable in my opinion, especially for a sporty vehicle like X5. I don't know about others, but that's just my opinion. I believe XC90 T8 gets a similar capacity out of its batteries, so let's bump those capacities on batteries and make use of the EV. The other concern is lack of EV charging stations around town. Most malls have maybe just a couple charging stations, I don't even know how they charge for those (subscription? complimentary?) and they are in unmarked locations. So EV drivers need to know where charging stations are located, hassle.

I see your point! The only thing why I'm interested in this is because IMHO if charging at home in your garage gives you enough EV range to get to work and back home - that's already a good start (especially for family or wife who doesn't take it for a spirited driving). For weekend enthusiastic stroll around twisty corners gasoline/diesel can be used as usual - no question about that (for me it's clear that plug-in hybrids are the future due to their ability to drive on gas or electricity - convenience. I don't think pure electric will cut it - like Tesla - too limited still). I'm thinking 70 miles EV range should be sufficient for majority of drivers, coupled with a good turbo engine this should be a winner IMHO. Even better if we can choose EV range on preorder - something like different sizes of batteries to choose from - like different options/packages would be nice
