Ordered mine on 9 Aug and was told it would be 2 weeks before it shipped. Called Steve at Invisihitch on 24 Aug to check on status. Was told that they were waiting on something for the harness and that it was to go out the next day. Received the hitch today, 26 Aug. Haven't unboxed it yet to check it out but its heavy.

A few steps that caught me today.
1). Fender flares: you want to push a straight skinny plastic tool into the fender flare, towards the other side of the vehicle, do not pry like the picture. Mine, stretched and broke. First one is up about 1.5 inches, then you'll see the others.
2). Like they said, pry the reflector from the outside, it should pop out, could not get it from the back side.
3). PDC - I could not get the single plug out so I pulled each sensor out.
4). Plastic tray in truck - fuck if I know how you get that thing out. Yanked the shit out of it.
5). Canbus - it's a small plug, I was looking for something big. 2 wires.

Overall, looks good and very solid. Trying out tomorrow. Will post pics.

As I said in several of my posts on this, the PDC connector was extremely difficult for me to disconnect but after about an hour and many four letter words, I finally got it disconnected. My advice is to try and somehow determine the logic of how these connectors disconnect so you are prepared to do so when you have the rear facia disconnected.

The plastic tray is held in place by three pins similar to the pins that hold on the fender flares, as I recall.

Yes, that canbus plus is small. Be careful not to damage the small pins on it and make sure it is connected tightly.

One final comment. Do not be alarmed if the system does not work quite right when you first install it and before have the proper coding performed. Mine did not work correctly or completely at first but, after the coding, it worked flawlessly, including the disengagement of the rear PDC and the zoom feature on the rear camera also works wonderfully.

They have revised the design of the hitch over these past few weeks as myself and a close friend both had ours fail. I was towing my 5000lb boat and he was towing his 6000lb boat. We both had the exact same type of failure within weeks of each other on our X5s

I reached out to Steve and he provided us both with beefed up replacements immediately as well as paid for return shopping for the broken hitch.

As far as I'm concerned he did the right thing and I would be happy to buy from them again in the future.

seeing the way your hitch broke, there's no way it could have been tested to the weight rating he was giving... those two tabs could not have handled the proper weight carrying rating to be a 6000 or 7000 lb hitch...

anyone who has the old design on their mount should be sending back / getting a recall notice, unless these two just happened to be flukes where he 'forgot' to weld up the sides...

that's an unsafe design, i hope nobody gets hurt from it... i'm feeling better about having ordered a european hitch...

I ordered from here:
http://www.pfjones.co.uk/bmw-x5-f15-...e-tow-bar.html

Limit on it is 7700lbs tow / 300 lbs weight, not sure if that fits your needs.

The tow bar itself is awesome. the electrics I got I haven't yet adapted to work with a USA trailer with the shared turn/tail.

A friend of mine sent me a link to this thread. I have an invisihitch with the 2" drop ball mount on my e70 x5. I regularly pull a track car on an open steel trailer, proably 5500 lbs total.

After seeing the failure pictures, I called invisihitch to inquire about a replacement with the updated design. Steve at invisihitch informed me that the 2" Drop version was not affected by this failure, but he offered to have one fabricated for me with the addition strengthening and will send it out in a few days.

So I just wanted to give them a thumbs up for a quality product, and great customer service! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone in the market for a hitch.

Wiring Diagram for 82 71 2 349 500 harness

Hi, I was wondering if you can post the wiring diagram that came with the invisihitch product. I just want to verify where to connect the 2 CAN cables on my 2015 X5.
Also any programming codes that I will definitely want or need to change once the harness is completely connected would be greatly appreciated. I plan to use NCSExpert.

I just had my Invishitch installed and wow this thing is solid! I love the system for switching out the 2" receiver or tow ball hitch. Absolutely no play when locked in and of course invisible when removed.

I can't wait to get my platform bike rack on it.

Just did my X5 this weekend. Arrived just a few days after order. Install went smooth as silk in right about 3 hours. Definitely the best product at the best price with outstanding folks standing behind the product.

Ya woulda been nice to have the invisihitch install guide when I started as it is very detailed and explained you have to disassemble the plug to get it through the hole.

Was a little surprised no one had posted it to the forum in the several "DIY" people have posted and none of the videos online cover installing the electronics.

I struggled getting the bumper separated from the rear wheel arch flares. Those snaps just did not want to come free and that plastic bends like a mother.

Obviously the issues with getting the plug through the hole in the frame. But once dremeled that was no problem.

And only other issue and still current is that I can't get the solid red power wire into the black slot on the back of the fuse box. No matter what I do it will not fully insert into the slot and engage the 20A fuse. I've even tried moving the wire to other slots and moving the 20A CB to see if maybe that slot is jacked up but nothing. I'm about to just remove the CB and attach it directly to the wire and wrap it in electrical tape lol. Good news is no errors on the dash.

I did feel imvisihitch instructions coulda done a better job about showing where the canbus connector was hiding. This out of focus image from 6' away with a small circle just wasn't cutting it. I just happen to see the connector while moving the wire looms around to try and get what I thought was the canbus connector out of the rear frame. Lol oh well. It's done. Took me about 7 hours but I've got a slip disc in my back and was painting and dealing with that crap the whole time so needless to say I wasn't rushing. If I just woulda installed the hitch itself I'd say it woulda taken me 2-3 hours max just getting everything off and reinstalled.

Cool part was I couldn't get my exhaust tips clean with any products I had and so I whipped out some sanding blocks I have and that made them look like new! Pretty surprised considering I just wanted to Mark them up for paint.

Jeez sorry didn't mean to type this much.

Well glad to hear you were able to get it done!
Slipped disc sounds very painful, I'm sure all this screwing around didn't help that.
Did you end up repainting the tips again after the mishap?

Nope. Want them to fully cure so I can sand the edges down

That's probably a smart decision. My stupid ass would have tried to respray right away and had a bigger mess lol

The fender plastic trim can be released by a quick tug while holding the bumper cover "back" and this worked for me. I replaced the fender trim, but yes they do get stretched and need to form it again before reinstalling.

The PDC clip, you will need a small flathead to gently release the top and bottom piece of the clip and should come off easily, though a bit tough to do one handed while holding the bumper cover with the other hand.
