Anyone can tell the difference between 30d and 40d?

I am wondering how to distinguish between 30d and 40d. Is there any different visual features under their engine bonnets? Any help is much appreciated.

In Msport guise the 40d is supposed to come with a titanium grill, the 30d a black grill. However in Europe a lot of 40s have been delivered without them.

Think it's the same on the SE also, not 100% sure.

Rounded exhaust pipes are an SE feature. Msport's are rectangular.

What are the mechanical differences?
50d, 40d and 30d all come with a 3liter engine. I am guessing turbo size and software are different.

The 30d has one variable-geometry turbocharger, the 40d has two turbochargers and the 50d has three turbochargers.
The four cylinder 25d has two turbochargers.

So theoretically, we can create a 50d in the states. Different exhaust manifold, 50d injectors, software and turbochargers.

Simply buy the entire engine (N57D30S1) from BMW – you could even tune it afterwards.

I thought the short blocks were all the same in the 30, 40 and 50

Thanks for the comments. Can I see those turbochargers difference in the bonnet?
