I've said it before, this is a mistake. It's very big, ugly and far from something "small and tight" by any comparisons.

If that's what BMW has become, oh well...

No, don't really like it. The headlamps are disproportionate, the kidneys are too big and they shouldn't go that wide, the fog lamps are hideous, the bumper is a "wanna be" kinda style..
The wide beautiful fenders are gone, long live the box!

They will sell?
Yeah, maybe, however I wouldn't spend my money on something that gives no emotions... Au contraire...
Don't you think the designers have evaluated all the options and looks before finalizing this one. Who else would think 100 times about the looks of the car than the seller particularly the most selling out going model. I think it's just perspective issue. For me, the E70 front is boring and need an aggressive front. More luxury and comfort ride. Most importantly, the new F15 has several lines to fit into all the customer base.

Few months from now, people will only remember and talk about F15. E70 is just history.

The looks of the vehicle are clearly subjective and I wouldn't begin to begrudge you your opinion. But "big"? Of course it is big. BMW also has the X1 and X3 series to capture those market segments. I don't know what dimensions the X5 should have given the sizes of the X1 and X3. If the vehicle is larger than your needs then you should shop for smaller suvs from BMW or other manufacturers. The same principle holds for the 7-series,5-series,3-series and 1-series.

If you want to see how big it is, look at an E70. While it might be bigger by an inch here or there, this is an updated E70. Google "X5 rear cargo 2011" and "X5 rear cargo 2014" to see images that show how similar they are, to the point where it appears that many trim pieces could be swapped:

A few examples, along with some attached images:

It's not going to be surprising if lots of other parts are the same. There are certainly new and improved bits all over the car, but it's not as "new" as it might at first seem. I'd like one, and I could probably use my E70 floor and cargo mats!

BMW in Autocar already said F15 uses E70's platform (but chassis made 5% stiffer). F15's goal is more refinement, better ride, and higher quality. BMW redesigned the interior but if you look carefully, there are still resemblances (like what you said with the cargo *******, for instance, even though the stereo now has the B&O option, but the speaker placement is exactly the same as current E70's individual option.

Someone in another thread mentioned that F15 is more of a Big LCI rather than a brand new car and I totally agree with it.
