Any thoughts?

Sorry, If I wasn't clear.
It sure is adjustable. If I recall correctly, it's under Setings. I'll double check tomorrow.

So I finally paid attention to the HUD when using navigation and it shows the highway name symbol in color.

You can adjust HUD display settings by going to:

1. Settings
2. Head-Up Display

There you can manage tilt and position of the HUD graphics.

Took a picture. There is only height adjustment and Rotation but cannot move display sideways.

Interesting. I remember moving it sideways long time ago because the display looked like it was more to the left. Maybe it was height but I'll have to play around with the iDrive and see if there was said setting.

I never head one before, but i find it a bit distracting as my eyes keeps wanting to focus on the image. Guess I'm just not used to it. Also I wear my Polarized prescription sun glasses so pretty much eliminates the HUD.

Kinda sad I can't see image hud well. My sunglasses are polarized. Unfortunately, they're also prescription. I occasionally tilt my head to catch a peek.

I have given up on polarized sunglasses a long time ago. Too many things don't work with them for such a little difference.

for those mentioning the display seems too far left... that is true for the speed info, but the display as a whole (meaning the left and right edges), it is centered above the steering wheel. You can see in Kzang's photo that the navigation cue is to the right of the speed, and when you cycle through entertainment lists it also appears to the right of the speed info. the issue then isn't that the screen is too far left, it's that the position of the info that is always there (speed mainly) is not in the center of the display.

Not sure how this would be solved other than reorganizing the location of the different things that can be displayed and then we'd be complaining that navigation cues are in the wrong spot... I think this is a no win for BMW and us owners. No matter what, a bunch of people will not like the position of something in the HUD.

That was my reaction as well when I first got the car.. I wanted to move the speed display to the right so that it would be centered.. then I realized it when I started to play with the HUD more I realized that the information that becomes available when you have Nav on or music selections listed needed to be placed there.

BMW HUD

I used to own a 2012 M50d with a HUD and the left to right orientation was perfect. Unfortunately this one got stolen at Xmas and I have just purchased a 2018 M50d .. I immediately noticed when test driving the car that the speed indicator on the HUD is slightly off for my seating position .. and tried to correct this in the settings .. but rotation doesn't do anything .. there seems to be plenty of space to the right of the screen for maps etc .. but my usual head position cut's about half of the speed indicator off and is very annoying.

Has anyone tried manual intervention .. e.g. adjusting the projector's manual position? I am thinking of trying this as it is so annoying.

How far over is your head? I think you'll have better success manually adjusting that vice tearing your dash apart

Apparently this is a common problem and can be rectified using the ISTA software .. see post in this thread

"Common" is a strong word considering this is the first it's been mentioned in an X and that you had to go to another forum To find it.

You sit completely different in the two vehicles. So maybe that has something to do with it. Idk. Hope it works out for you!

I think this is just the limitation of HUD projection screen. Newer and higher end vehicles will have better color, field of vision, higher definition... than the old ones. But BMW ones (even the old hardware) are still much better than some other newer ones from Lexus, Acura....

What hardware is needed to retrofit the rev limiter in hud? It is a big issue when you have a trans tune, and no limiter in HUD is the main screen that I use since I blinker coded as well, so I no longer look at my dash when shifting in sport + and sometimes forget it's in manual and mis shift. I usually listen my exhaust instead of looking down but 1 st gear with tune sometimes gets to redline to soon than expected.

I don't think its a hardware, retrofit, HUD would display whatever signal is sent to it.
