New "mod" this weekend.

The car started out clean and looking like this...

Then I got this while crawling in traffic on the Norther State Parkway..

Which caused this on the wheel barrel..

The TPMS warning came on and showed my rear tire had 25psi, 20, 18, 15, 10 all within 30 seconds. Lucky I was able to exit the highway immediately and pulled over on a residential street safely. I had my entire family with kids in the car.

When i got back home after putting on the spare I wanted to see WTF jabbed into my tire and this is what i saw

Holy cow. In my 20 years of driving this is the first time I've ever seen this. There seems to be a old tie rod with a 12-14mm nut that rammed its way into my tire and blew out the wheel barrel while all going 10-15mph in traffic. I didn't even feel a thing while driving as if i ran over something.

This is how the car ended up looking at the end of the weekend. BMW could not have given me a more narrow spare wheel. It looks like a big bicycle tire and had a max speed of only 50mph. Not a rule you can easily follow to be honest.

Talk about one expensive weekend

Man that sucks. The worst flat I had was with a piece of 6 inch rebar that went in and bent back out against the rim. It didn't penetrate my rim like that.

Alan, can you claim to the city for damage?
That is something that the city should keep an eye on for debris on the road. Luckily it got caught on your tires, not fly over and stab people on their eyes or something.
Just a thought, cuz I remember a friend of mine got into accident because of road hazard and the city ended up reimbursing him.

Dang that wins the worst flat tire of the year award. A lug nut off a semi tractor being towed hit my brother this weekend at 70 mph, it nearly ripped the entire rear mud flap off his rental (his lemon truck is in the shop again). If that had kicked up and went through a windshield it could have killed someone the nut is like the size of a tennis ball.

Hopefully the pics upload ok (app), including a pano of the river I was at today.

It goes in for its second service appt tomorrow, including a new battery, and I'm soooo tempted to let them wash it given all the dirt collected today, but I gotta resist and specify "No Wash!" on the paperwork.
Bah gas it and haul ass across that river Kia has commercials of their SUV's doing that on tv lately.

Had to take a photo in front of the clubhouse after tonight's golf round. Love the look of this car.

I wish there was a clubhouse that looked like that one around here. Beautiful ride too

That sucks. I also hit a huge truck tire balance weight that ripped my tire apart. Your damage looks like someone shot your wheel.

As for the speed on the tire, I would say that's a legal thing. The tire is rated for 130 mph. I've driven 1200 miles on mine going 75-80 for hours.

When I pick up my x5 i thought that my dealer had spacers for me installed but no, was only staggered tires.
Really? Just the tires are staggered? The wheels are same width front and back? I hate 255s all around a in the US. Anyone switched out to 285s rear on their 19" in the US?

Does BMW's wheel and tire warranty still cover aftermarket wheels and non OEM tires?

I did not buy the wheel/tire insurance here because I don't think they cover aftermarket wheels and tires.
