All your symptoms have been pointing to low charge or some sort of connection issue. I'll be damned if it didn't.

So, got my new Aux battery in and it did not resolve my issues. However, I need someone to point me in the right direction. I think I have a relay issue, but haven't found where they are exactly. The CAS and Kombi modules seem like they are not powering up, and then when clearing codes Ista tells me that it can't switch off the ignition automatically. I imagine that is also a relay, but not sure which one or where to look.

Not sure if you've had a chance to poke around. Have a look at the Workshop tab, you will be able to do searches for wiring diagrams, object functions, connections, etc.

Just to clarify, you dont need to be in the car, connected to search the manuals. You can do that offline.

Since you have already checked the ground straps and after looking into this a bit more, with the fault codes present I think you are on the right track into looking into the relays next. Then after that I would check the engine compartment distribution panel. With the short to ground faults, could be something melted here and shorting out.

So first up check your terminal 30 relays, the F85 appears to have two, one front located in the front fuse junction box and the rear located in (or near) the rear fuse panel.

If all of that checks out, there is another distribution panel to check in the engine compartment.

Pics and more info below.

I would also visually check out the power distribution junction located on the main battery. I have seen in the past people tapping these cables to run stereo equipment that can wreak havoc. Look for anything left over from the previous owner that doesn't look factory.

Also if you dont have access to BMW TIS, PM me, makes looking all this up much faster then waiting for ISTA to sift through the 10gig of data IMHO

So, stupid question, but a ran across a post on a Google search saying that leaving a obd adapter plugged in all the time will hurt the car. I was running the black mhd wifi adapter all the for extra gauges. Could that have been what caused my problem? And, what did it damage if it is the problem?

Also, someone has been into the housing around the BDC.

Come to find out the 1st copy of ISTA I got wasn't the fun version.

Re-installing a full version now.

I've heard that they tend to drain the battery, especially if the vehicle is not driven much. The expensive ones automatically turn off after 10 minutes upon turning off the ignition.

Finally got a full version of ISTA working, have to put some things back together and then I can run this program the right way, and hopefully start to get this thing repaired.

Dumb question, how did you find out that your version is not the full? What were you not able to do or what issues you were having?

I know when installing it gave the option to install the Programming module, but would of been like a 200GB+ Install. Is that what you were missing?

When I went for the technical data in workshop, it had no info, and it wouldn't do anything other than the vehicle test(i.e. it wouldn't help me troubleshoot).

This damn thing was my problem. Apple carplay add-on.

No major fault codes, and the car starts up. Haven't had a chance to try and drive it yet.

Thanks everyone for the support and help.

Funny thing is, I was taking apart the dash to trace wiring and found it. I don't use it, so I was like, I'll just remove it and de-clutter a bit. Then I got ISTA sorted out and went to hook it up and test the car. Turn the ignition on and everything turned on and no alarms, WTF?!? Lol

Interesting find. I thought this is powered by NBT plug and NBT connected to Terminal 30B.

Switching Off Terminal 30B :

When the vehicle is locked, the Car Access System receives the central double-locking signal. Once the vehicle is locked, Terminal 30B remains on for approx. one minute and is then switched off by the Car Access System. The tailgate must have already been closed. If the vehicle is not locked or if the tailgate remains open, the delay until Terminal 30B is switched off is approx. 30 minutes. After that, the Car Access System switches Terminal 30B off. In addition, Terminal 30B can be switched off when the vehicle is in parked mode if the battery upper starting capacity limit is reached. During fault diagnosis, the power down command can be used to switch off Terminal 30B under defined conditions for the purposes of measuring quiescent current

I think I follow what you are saying. That makes sense on why I had to keep removing the charger and battery terminals to get the car to reset power so I could diagnose more.
