Winter wheel/tire options for F85 X5M and F86 X6M?
Anyone investigate possible BMW OEM Winter wheel and tire packages for the new X5M or X6M? I'm considering delaying my X5M production/delivery until the Spring. No way am I driving this Winter on the Summer performance tires.

The fact that in now comes as standard with 20" rims tells me that 19"s (the old winter setup for prior X5M/X6M) will no longer fit over the new brakes
I'm also trying to track down this info, to see if my 2013 X5M rims will actually fit or if, as I suspect, I'll need to drop another $6k on winter rims/tires |

I have some info...BMW will offer a Winter tire/wheel package using the standard 611M 20" wheels, with Pirelli Winter Scorpions on all four wheels, size 285-40-20. No info on price yet.
I know my current Winter setup E70 223M wheels won't fit on the F85 X5M, not sure about your 2013 X5M wheels.

My X5M will have 21s from the factory and I'll buy the 20" Winter wheel/tire package. My current E70 X5 has 20" style 227M with 19" style 223M for the Winter.

I'd be careful.
Anything less than 19" won't clear the front brake rotor on X5M 2010-2013. And there's only the special version of rims from the 298m kit that will fit. I bet it's the same thing for F85. |

Where are you located? Being in New York with crappy roads I'm leaning to 20" rather than 21" summer tires and 20" winter tires. Anyone have any thoughts / experience with this decision?

I'm in NJ. I ordered my X5M with the 21" Summers, and I'll get a set of 20" Winters.

Yeah, that's a worry of mine too, but the 21s are so sweet! I'll be sure to get the wheel & tire insurance. I have it on my current X5 and it paid for itself many times over.

611M Style Tires
I'm looking to get the x5m with 20s. I drive to VT a lot and need winters. Any recommendations on tires and where to find them? 285/40 & 325/35s, correct? Would all-seasons as my only tires be a no-no?
Conti and some other makers I checked don't have 2015 x5m packages on their websites yet. Thanks!

I've seen videos of rear wheel sports cars with snow tires blowing away four wheel drive cars with all seasons on inclines, turns and braking. No comparison. Don't bother with all seasons. You get the most out of your X5M with a dedicated performance summer tire and true Winter tire. I have two X5's. A 2012 X5M and a 2015 X5. Both have 20" staggered. I got the Pirelli Scorpion and Ice Run Flats on both. Awesome tires in the bad weather. Not sure what the sizes are on the X5M you are getting but definitely go for the 20's. Look so much better. Good luck and congrats. |

Tires are the single most important safety device on your car. It's worth a little extra to get the right ones for the season. I've also found that it's not too hard to sell them when you change cars.... |

On my E70 now i have Michelin Latitude Alpine LA2 on 19" M wheels, and are the most amazing winter tires i have ever owned. The grip is unbelieveble, even on ice. No doubt these are the tires that i will get also for the F86

Thanks for confirming what I thought re: snow tires. Now I just need to carve out some space in my packed garage for the other set of tires. I plan on getting the 20" wheels, and therefore the tires would be the 285/40 and 325/35s (I believe).

1. The BMW dealership charges the same to do the swap ($40) - plus they have comfy seats, free internet, free coffee, and muffins 2. If I bought the rims and tires from BMW Parts (I bought the rims there, and sure, those tires aren't from tire rack) they'll *store them* at the dealership for free too. Worth checking if a local dealer will do the same. Hell, it's worth the ~5% premium (barely that if you're a BMWCCA member) to buy direct from them purely for the reduced hassle! |

Ordered my Winter tires and wheels from BMW today. I'll post pricing info and part numbers for those who are interested in a day or two.

The wheels that come with the Winter package (in the U.S. at least) are Style 611M, the standard 20" wheels that are offered with the X5M and X6M.
