For the 3rd row, I think it's worth for me because I have 7 people in the house. I would say it's ok for small folks like 5'5" or less in the third row WITH the condition that second row has to be adjusted all the way forward. I'm only 5'8" and my wife 5'4" in the front row so we can move up the seats a little to give extra room for second row while my father in law at 5'5" and a 5'1" teenager in the third were totally ok. Long distance trip can be problematic. I wouldn't recommend any trip more than 2 hrs in the third row for teenagers or older.
1 sacrifice: cargo space. With 7 seats in use, you will have only little cargo space left around the size of 2 carrying on luggages. It's not like Tesla X that I tried lol.
Btw, I had running boards installed and honestly, I hate the look because I have M-Sport. My wife requested it and didn't have any choice...;(
Thank you, I always wanted to see how M Sport would look with running boards, do you have pictures? I didn't even think you could make themdo it.

PS: Now that I think, I believe when I looked at the 3-row X5, they did NOT slide the 2nd row forward..That might be why I thought it was totally useless because there was almost no legroom. Plus, instead of me, slightly taller than 6' trying it, I should have asked my wife and son to sit back there. There is no ISO tether on 3rd row, right?

Yes, not only the cargo space, you also lose the magic space (spare compartment with no spare) by getting 3rd row. Sure, less space for us to hoard stuff, but still, I always used it to keep clutter like the ikea bags, bike pump, hazard triangle, few detailing/clean up products, etc..

Thank you sir! By the way, I must say the step bars don't look so bad, don't be so hard on yourself. They actually look nice. You got 9 inches of legroom, that's more than some of the airplanes I took domestic. I see you went with center-mounted child seat, after my rear A/C dials broke with a simple kick, I decided to keep mine on the passenger side. I heard people with two child seats actually use the rear to get into the 3rd row (for only 1 person with 2nd 3rd row folded. So with 6 passengers, you actually still have a reasonable cargo space as long as you secure the cargo properly.

In the real life, when you see the matte black color of the running boards is not quite marching the color of the whole car, you feel annoyed.
You're right about the third row. If you have 6 people, 1 fold-down seat will have more space and also is the preferred entry/exit for the kid. Kids like to crawl in from the back actually!

I didn't think about the black part, which gets blended with the shadow in your picture. If this is a finance and not a lease, maybe you can get a container of BMW paint matching yours and get a local paint shop to prime & paint the black plastic area of the steps? It could have been much easier before they were installed, but it's still an option.

I just picked up a 2017 X5 40e for $765 a month. Did a sign and drive. MSRP was $71670. Loving the car so far.

What was the sale price ultimately, and like vinny84, did you put anything down or just cover the acquisition/dmv/1st month? any MSDs?

I think the selling price was around $58k after dealer discount and all incentives.

He also applied some fleet discount to get the MF down to .00130 even though Mays rate was .00150. I did not do MSD's.

I did a 10k per year since I typically pull ahead around month 33-35. So if I hit 30k miles I'll just pull ahead assuming I stay in BMW.

I did a sign and drive. I put nothing down and rolled all taxes and fees into the payment. If I paid the fees and taxes up it would have been around $5300 due at signing and the monthly payment would have been under $600.

I opted to roll everything into the payment. So I just gave them the first month payment at delivery.

Yes, LATCH, I believe? We don't have those on 3rd row, right?

3rd row has nothing, it's just standard shoulder-lap belts.

So LATCH are the rings in the seat base. LATCH is only in the 2nd row on the X5. There is no LATCH loop set in the middle seat either.

There's another concept of the overhead tether/anchor which I thought you were talking about. Some larger, heavier carseat use this in conjunction with the lapbelt (not LATCH).

The X5 does have the tether anchor on the back of the 2nd row...eventually, I will have to move one of my child seats to the middle of the 2nd row, use the lap belts, but that will ideally require a tether/anchor support.

Anyways, try to use LATCH whenever possible, as it's the easiest install for most car seats. But once you try to put something in the 3rd row or the middle seat of 2nd row, then you need the do the lap belt system with the anchor, and that's a pain if you have to install/uninstall many times.

Flying Ace, thanks, I am currently using Latch + Top Tether on my Britax. It makes it rock solid. I noticed that without top tether, the top can actually flex forward a lot. Definitely use the top tether even if you don't have to, if your seat comes with it.

It helps helps if you have to use center which doesn't have LATCH, so you use the regular seat belts in conjunction with Top Tether.

Yeah, I don't know what I said tether, I should have said Latch.

Thank you! So $2k off MSRP right off the bat without any haggling, before any rebates/discounts/etc?

I never considered edmunds before, I always thought it was just another car stat site, but now that I see they have forums with a lot of pricing related info. Never knew edmunds was anything like that. Thanks.

PS: Isn't 58% bad for X5? The MF does seem much better now though, that's 3.6% APR for 36mo on a lease.

the residual hasn't really changed over the course of the past few months. when i signed my lease in march it was 58% (although the MF was lower)
but nice to see the 2k lease credit available
