Full vs extended leather
Hi,
I am new to this forum. I am trying to finalize my order here in Toronto for a X5M. Can someone tell me the difference between full and extended leather? Some of the extended leather individual option look nicer as more of the front dash is covered in the leather color you choose as well as the glove box. Here in Canada, the extended individual option is cheaper than the full leather option. Also, does anyone know how the taupe leather color looks like? I was thinking of the smoke white but it is too risky for me and I thought taupe maybe a bit darker. I really love the smoke white though. I tried searching but couldn't find anything. Thanks. |

Do a quick search of this forum. It's been covered. I can't recall all the specifics, but full includes leather over some of the lower pieces in the cabin, IIRC, while extended does not. Scroll through a couple of pages if you couldn't find it in a search, but it has been addressed recently (again, sorry I can't recall the specifics). HTH

Word of advice, if you are doing black interior it's not worth it. Very hard to tell.
Any other interior is completely obvious and worth it Quote:

Thanks for the replies. I am a bit confused. Looking through some other threads, for the guys that got the smoked white extended leather, they seem to have the full leather coverage when the this option is actually an individual extended (not full) option.

I believe there's a mistake in the description of the individual colors in Canada. It says extended but in reality, it's full when you look at pictures. My 2013 E70M individual says Full. They changed it to extended with the F85. If you look around the world, in China for example, they say Full for the individual colors.

Working closely with BMW's Individual Program the past few months on an M4 order, I can tell you there is a huge disconnect in BMW's description of various items. Half of the time, people who should know what these descriptions entail, don't know, and it takes weeks to get answers. The most amount of time spent on our Individual M4 order has been in clarifying various descriptions, and unspoken/written intentions. All Individual interiors are "extended", but that means different things on different models. On the M3/M4, if one includes the XT1 item with "individual - extended leather", one gets "individual - full leather" as described on a regular interior order. XT1 is an option on X5/X6 Individual Orders, as well. The tricky part is sometimes BMW will automatically include this XT1 item, and sometimes they won't. On the Individual interior options for the X5/X6 M, XT1 is included, so what is described as Individual - Extended Leather really equates to Individual - Full Leather. XT1 varies across different models, but is almost always equal to Merino Leather Dashboard, which on 5/6 models, up, includes the door bottoms, as well. XT1 on the M3/M4 does not include leather door bottoms, we are paying separately for that, and that has its own option code on the M3/M4. It is the back-end option codes, such as XT1, which aren't easily accessible in the order system, that make all the difference. Sometimes BMW will include ones that make the selected option equal a different option than described, simply because they decided to automatically add that back-end option code to the item being selected. On the X5/X6 M that means Individual Extended Leather actually equals Individual Full Leather, because this XT1 code is automatically added. BMW's option code system, once figured out, is actually quite flexible, and useful. Z1XX for an interior code always equals an Individual special order interior, and in North America, the VIP Special Order Executive has to input that. Option 944 encompasses truly bespoke items, for our M4 order, that includes contrast stitching dyed to match the exterior color of the M4, along with interior trim pieces painted in the exterior color we selected for the M4, and many other options. |

Excellent explanation on the XT1 option code.
Still, BMW decided to change the individual option on E70 vs F85. XT1 was part of the order guide when coupled with individual leather on E70 (XT1=Merino Leather Dash and Door Trim). The leather was Full merino as it began with code ZB** instead of ZA**. The thing is the Individual Leather cost 3000$ instead of 4500$ full leather in Canada. For 1500$ less, you get the same thing or a little bit more with the roof liner when going with Individual. That I don't understand and why the switch to ZA** code. I remember someone posted the colour linked parts of the individual F85 awhile back. It's hard to find the exact combinaison of color of everything inside I've attached the product guide from E70M. |

Did you get CF too? What headliner did you choose -- smoke white or anthracite? You are going to love the combo! Can't wait until you see it in person! |

Thanks Luca for your help. I went with the lighter color roofliner. I went CF too. I initially ordered the red and the change to the individual smoke white pushed back my expected delivery a month. The wait will be tough but have something to look forward to so its cool. Thanks again!!!

If you do that, you really will struggle to tell the difference.

It's doing well -- no complaints. In fact, it's holding up better than I thought it would.
It is more work to keep clean than a darker color, but the warmth and contrast really make the interior inviting. I'm happy with my choice. In fact, the only time I've needed to do a heavy cleaning is when I've gotten my car back from the service department. It was dirty and it showed. Luckily, it came right off and looking like new. |

Personally, I would pair it with Donington. I like the combination of grey/cream and I think it would go well. You really cannot go wrong with Donington. |

How much longer does it take when you order a X5M individual interior vs Silverstone? 2 more months? Also, what is the added cost vs full leather Silverstone? Thx for all the info Luca.
