Delivered X5 M50d

2 weeks ago I finally took delivery of a X5 M50D.

I didn't receive it before my vacation so my dealer gave my an 520D touring to use for our 3000 km drive through Denmark and southern Sweden.

http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...highlight=m50d

I'm kind of glad for that now because the 520 was full of sand from all the beaches we visited

X5 M50D
M sport (standard on M50D)
Carbon Black
Nappa Mocha
Comfort seats
Fineline wood
468M
3rd row
surround view
HUD
trailer hitch
HK
LED
Connected drive
NAV pro
BT
Real time traffic info
Remote services
Internet
BMW Apps
Heater with remote start
Heated Stearing wheel
Heated rear seats
Alarm system with GPS tracking
Tint rear windows

I am really happy with the color choice of both interior and exterior.

I have been driving more than 3000km (2000 miles) since delivery (2 weeks) and I love the car.

It is a lot more quite than our old X5 E70 30d.

The engine is amazing. It's so quick

The interior is so much nicer than the old X5.

The have had 2 issues with it though
1. AC. When we drove down to southern Sweden the AC stopped working halfway. I drove for an hour with Max AC pressed and it still didn't cool down the car. 3 days later when we drove back to Stockholm it worked fine though
2. Fuel consumption. I know it has done only 3000 Km/2000 miles but I really think the fuel consumption is too high. Our old X5 did 9,5 l/100km and my M3 did 11,5 l/100km and this X5 M50d does 10,5 l/100km and BMW official numbers for highway is 6,2 l/100km.

6,2 and 10,5 is not even close, its more than 50% more fuel consumption but I hope it will be better whitin the next 5000 miles or so

Yes. I'm going to install the black m performance grill and I still haven't decided about the wheels if I'm keeping these as my summer wheel and buy a winterset of 20s or if I'm changing rubber on these to winter and buy a set of 21 or 22s new summer wheels.

I'm also thinking about the new full LCD instrument cluster

Welcome to the M50d family and congrats! Proper envy that your dealer didn't forget to put HK like mine )))

On a consumption note... I think my figures will make you feel better: 12.7 before AC Schnitzer installation and... still measuring after, currently @ 18

Oh, and forget about full LCD. Kept it the real deal - analogue forever.

Very nice man. Congrats! The mileage 'should' get better. But my 35d is carrying a lifetime average (9,600 kms) of 9L/100, so if you're getting 10.5L/100, that's not bad considering the increased power/size of the engine. BMW claims 8.7 city and 6.3 highway on my 35d. Remember, you'll have a very hard time getting anything close to the published numbers. Those will be on flat ground, optimal elevation and ambient temp, no cargo, wind, etc...under absolute PERFECT conditions.

The black m performance grills finish off the exterior, give it more presence.

You moving to regular non RF for winter tyres? Any idea which ones?

No. I will go for run flats for my winter setup. If I get a flat when it's freezing outside I really would like to just keep going and not having to deal with it right there freezing my as off. It gets really cold in Sweden.

I haven't looked into what tire to get yet.

This surprises me as I'm getting 8.3 average. On a run I'm getting 7.2 taking it v Easy and 7.8 driving normally. Pushing it drops to 9. Car has 4k km so I expect even this to improve. This is above BMW's claim but within what I'd expect.

I was afraid it wouldn't look good as I never saw it before delivery but it is stunning. I would not change it if I could.
