Just got our X5 diesel. A couple questions

We're really impressed with the car. Initial impressions are excellent. This is coming from someone who's owned 2M3's, 3 X5's, a 328 and a 318 Fuel range gauge reads 730 mile range!
First question, I noticed the oil filter housing is under the engine cover. How does the cover come off? I don't see any screws or bolts. Does it pull off? Also, at the back of the engine, near the drivers side bulkhead, there appears to be a dipstick. Is this for the transmission fluid? Third, there are two blue caps on the left and right side of the engine. Are these both for the exhaust fluid (or whatever that stuff is called)? When adding that stuff, how do you know which cap inlet to fill from? The left or right? Thanks for any help.

1. just pull it up no screws or nuts
2. oil dipstick
3. fill up both of them

Thanks! As for 3), I understand a light comes on the dash letting one know the fluid is low. Does it say which cap to add to? Or do they both feed into the same system?

sounds like something your dealer should show you. I am doing PCD Sept 8 hoping that the factory knows more than my dealer, who still knows nothing about the changes/updates for 2015.

We ordered a D too hoping it provides enough pull to satisfy (coming from v8 ML)
I'll make sure to ask about under hood, thanks for the heads up

No, it doesn't say which tank. It just indicates that the fluid is low. Your service center should top it off when you have service done. There was an article or post somewhere that indicated the left one (as you face the engine from the front) should be filled first. The right one was a reserve. I am looking for that article to confirm. It's been a few weeks since I was reviewing that.

I was just at Tischer BMW today and the parts guy went back to the mechanics for me to get the story. Apparently, all they do is top off both fill holes when the vehicle comes in for an oil change
