Who's from So Cal area?

Just trying to gauge how many of us are from So. Cal? OC/LA/IE. If enough are interested, maybe we can do a coffee and greet.

Cars and Coffee is in Irvine every Sat morning...I doubt they'd let us into the show, but the parking garage for "regular cars" is big....plus we'd get to check out some pretty cool stuff...

I think 5 is a good starting number...of course others are welcomed.

Weekend or weekday (I think most of us have family and kids to consider) to meet up?

Z.

I'm up in NorCal, but do want to take a road trip with the X5 at some point. I can bring my laptop and offer coding if anybody wants it.

That'd be cool...weekends are best for me....

Do you have a list of "options" you can adjust with coding?

I'm up for some coding ... I'll even pay you for it since your offering to drive down :-)

San Diego. Just coded my X5 all up. The active headlights are the coolest feature.

Can you elaborate? What changes do you get with those?

Are you saying you added adaptive headlights by coding alone? Or did you already have (I.e. pay for) adaptive headlights?

What else did you change through coding?

Adaptive headlights are de-coded at the factory for all US models due to the FTA not approving their use. The feature can be re-enabled through software.

So what exactly do we have if this feature is not enabled? I have the LED package and auto high beam function which I don't think works that well. I am sometimes the only car on the street at night and the feature goes on and off at random even without any other cars on the way.

What is the big difference you see when you enable this feature? Also, you say the use is not approved by FTA so would you be in trouble if you activate that? Ticket? Liable in case of an accident?

My apologies - the feature I was thinking of is called 'variable light' or 'anti-dazzle' - and it's the US DOT (not FTA) that restricts it's use. Sorry about that :-)

Here is a quote from another forum describing its function (essentially it dynamically adjusts headlamp brightness based in oncoming traffic)...

"The behavior with oncoming traffic was very effective and easy to see. The left headlight would swivel as needed and then when the car got close, it would dip and eventually turn off, then pop back on when the car passed, all while the right high beam was on.

You definitely see the lights swivel all over the place compensating for the traffic conditions. If things got too confusing (several cars around), it just turned the high beams off and when the cars cleared, it would turn them back on, just like it did before."

Ok. Why don't we save all these coding conversation until when we actually meet up?

Weekend or weekday?

Z.

Let set a date so we can do meet up and coding at the same time.
I just learned a few coding again today.
Z is going to my office tomorrow for coding.
