Tapping into high beams

I'm thinking about adding in some LED lights to my X5 that I'd like to turn on when the high-beams turn on. What are the chances that there's a dedicated wire for high beam power? It's more likely a signal that's received from the ECU that's not tapable, right?

If you have LED headlights already not likely since the high beam and low beam are one unit chip... I guess unless you have incredibly good soldiering skills and you feel like taking apart your headlights, you can probably "tap in."

If you have Xenon headlights, then there is no high beam. It's just a solenoid shutter covering half the beam when on low beam. I guess you could theoretically tap in the signal for the shutter to "signal" for your accessory lights.

Anyways I hope you're not going to end up with light bars or something, anyone who uses them on the road should be shot.

Cool,
Thanks for the info, this is helpful. I do have LED headlights, and didn't really expect this to be easy to do, back to the drawing board.

Yes, LED light bars.

I welcome the feedback from people on the street, that covers me on Duty or Retreat.

What about the fog lights. Does anyone know if they have a 12v wire I can possibly tap into?
