Contemplating X5M
Wife got t-boned in her E60 M5 last week. She walked away with bruises on her left leg and left chest but thankfully that was all. The car on the other hand is toast. Spent the last week thinking about a replacement. She has narrowed it down to a 2017 Cayenne GTS or 2017 X5M. I've been trying to read up as much as possible on this forum, particularly on pricing at this point. I did see a few people mention getting 10% off MSRP. I also read that invoice is now between 7-8% below MSRP. At 10% off MSRP are dealers still able to make a profit? Are people including the USAA incentive in that 10% calculation? And is it true that the BMW CCA rebate is void if you use the USAA incentive?
Thanks for any input. |

First thing first speedy recovery to your wife and hope all is well.
On the other hand, I've owned my F85 for just over a year now, I've done lots of mods, and very happy with it. With that said I'm reading all the latest news and incentives from bmw are going away like multiple deposit, maintenance and such... As far as for myself I've been driving BMW's for the last 10 years and so... and as much as I hate to say I will be walking away after I'm done my lease with f85. Customer service is just not there anymore from where it used to be. Bmw got on side kinda chu chu train and forgot how to treat their customers. Back to your topic over as a truck I'm happy but lacking the support for a premium price, if I was to choose today I'd go else where Porsche or benz as their design and features are advancing more at this point, hope my 2 cents help

Whoaa!! That's a serious impact right on the drivers door!! Thank God your wife walked away with just bruises.
Both the Porsche and the X5M will be excellent. The GTS is not as fast as the X5M but that may not be a issue for you at all. I have a great deal of respect for BMW and Porsche. I don't believe you or your wife will be disappointed with either of these great choices. I would go with the X5M over the Porsche. I like the X5M exterior styling, Infotainment, interior ergonomics, power and standard features better. Test drive both and enjoy the search.

WOW .... Glad your wife was able to walk away with just bruises which shows how well these cars are engineered.
I love my X5M and still after nearly 2 years am excited to get behind the wheel every day. Can't answer your question about the combining of incentives and you don't state whether you will be leasing or buying. If you are not leasing then the changes to the MSD program won't mean anything to you. The X5 should be restyled for model year 2018, which would mean that the X5M probably won't be seen until model year 2019. |

I think 7% off is invoice, and the dealer always makes money in my opinion - somehow that sale will help them or they wouldn't do it. If i got 8% off a year ago, I'm guessing you can get 10% now. For me it was between the Cayenne GTS and F85 as well, but the performance #'s just weren't there for the Cayenne, even the Cayenne Turbo cant keep up with the F85 for significantly less money. In the end the MSD program swayed me, so if you're ready to go prior to May 1st, I'd jump on that.
For me leasing was a no brainer, I would not want to own the F85 after the new one is out, but that's just me.

Glad that your wife is ok and fast recovery for her.
Between Porsche Cayenne GTS and BMW X5M, I personally would choose BMW X5M. For the price that you paid, you get almost everything. Also, since your wife is the primary driver, she will appreciate the X5M more since it has more storage to put away stuffs. I learned it the hard way, wife wanted to get Cayenne after my X5 lease was up. And now, whenever I drive the car, stuffs are everywhere. Also, the Cayenne felt cramped inside and less trunk space.

Thanks for all the replies. All I am looking for in these two SUVs is for my wife to find a car she loves. After the accident she spent a couple days researching vehicles and came up with these two. After she test drives them she will pick the one she likes better.
My main reason for posting last night was to inquire about the feasibility of getting 10% off MSRP and if that requires using the USAA incentive. Our plan is to buy rather than lease as she keeps her cars for many years. |

I get a corporate BMW discount which voided the CCA rebate, kinda sucks b/c i didnt know that going in, but still think I got a killer deal. If u get all that and USAA it would be great. I think the net return on the MSDs was about 40%, so I really think that's the way to go if you consider lease especially since you'd be one of the very last ones to qualify for it. Not sure I'd pick BMW in a toss-up w/o them.

to be honest the cayenne gts is a much smoother vehicle, and much more refined than the x5m.
it depends on your priorities, if performance of the suv is a must, then the x5m is a winner- i would advise you that the car tends to drive rough in all modes other than efficient. passengers have complained about getting car sick when i drive. the porsche is a much better daily driver, and the steering, power linearity, and overall smoothness is on another level. it handles amazingly with pdcc and i can see why people would pick it over an x5m.

I would seriously consider an X5 5.0. I had 2 prior generation X5 5.0s (both with spotty reliability). Recently upgraded to a 2017 X5 5.0 (with adaptive drive - a must). This one has been solid as a rock.
Spent countless hours on this forum and test drove the X5M twice thinking that was the direction I wanted to go, but it was pretty rough under all settings as prior poster said. Several things made me decide against the X5M: 1. Cost was not an issue but I did get around 12% off (89k MSRP and around 79k cap cost). Deals weren't that good on X5M. Saved about 25 grand over the best X5M deal I could get. Plus BMWCCA 1k rebate. 2. Adaptive cruise but not for the cruise. I really wanted autonomous braking and that feature is really cool and has saved me once already. 3. Couldn't get jet black in X5M. 4. Ride was rough (maybe I'm getting old haha). 5. Call me crazy but I really like run flat tires for safety (flame suit on). By safety, I generally mean having a flat in a less desirable part of town where a 100k car draws lots of attention... 6. 5.0 has plenty of power (mostly unusable in city). I'll revisit when my lease is up in 3 years and the new G model is out. Just my .02. ps. not a fan of the Cayenne but I did cross shop the supercharged Range Rover (regular not sport). Beautiful car, visibility (aka command view) gives best view of road I have ever experienced in a car, plush ride when going in straight line down interstate....which all goes to shit when you accelerate, decelerate, hit a turn etc. Basically drives like crap. Terrible technology too boot. Last edited by JM71; 04-18-2017 at 05:35 PM.. |

I owned a new X5 50 MSport for a couple of months. Traded it in on the X5M. Would never go back. This is my daily driver and vacation driver. I understand and respect budgets. But if you can afford an M, there is no comparison.

Curious as to why - since I did the opposite. I loved the 50i MSport we had, but after driving the X5M for a day I'm hooked. Either make great rides, and I can understand that the choice depends on priorities and budget. Luckily for me, I have a wife who loves cars and speed so it was an easy decision for us to trade the 50i for the M.

If your wife wants a similar color combo to what she had and is interested in a 50i there's a 50i at Mountain View BMW in the Bay Area that I ordered for my wife and then backed out of. You don't see a lot of Pearl Silver Metallic cars on the lot.

My Twin Turbo Vette is faster, but if I could only keep 1 , it's the M. 600 mile drives, no problem. It will 0-60 better than most exotic's. Begs to be driven hard. Best of all worlds for me. |

My bad, no idea how I got those backwards. Guess I'm already concerned what I do when it is time for another car...it would be hard to go back to the 50i, but was maybe hoping someone else had done that and wasn't unhappy with the decision.
