So here are options if you would like to buy new or replace your rails on your F15.

We are able to get Roof Rail deletes here in the states. Which replaces your roof rails with a flat black piece of plastic shown on many BMW cars (Non SAV's)

Our roof rails are held into place with small nuts and adapters which you can reuse from your old ones to make them work. Only way to remove the rails is from under the head liner. There are three nuts holding them in on each side.

I do ask if anybody has attempted or has had there dealers replace them please inform us and cost to do so. As I thought my build was coming with Shadow line trim I didn't know my rails would be satin aluminum so now with everything Alpine White and Gloss Black on my X5 it looks damn out of place.

I opted for the factory no-roof-rails option when ordering back in December 2013. Enjoyed my choice ever since

@Taran.J, you do need to bring down the headliner a little bit for access to the nut.
I haven't tried it, by when I run the cable for the Dashcam, it was halfway there.

Yeah that's what I ended up finding out too when I ran my V1 wiring. But I don't think it's a quick job unless all three are at easy to get spots.

I looked it up for you on the full install of removing the roof rails, and it's not an easy job at all . You have to remove so many things to get access to the headliner before getting access to the roof rail nuts.

Has anyone tried this already? I got the satin color roof rails as well when ordering MSport with the shadowline trim. I'd be interested in changing this out if I could get the full install instructions.

I'll be plasti dipping mine with matte and Glossifer this week sometime.

It isn't the best way to do it on a $70k vehicle but it's hell of a lot cheaper to do it the right way.

$500 for trim then look at another $600-$1000 for a dealer to install them as most of the side and headliner needs to come down to access them.

After looking at your build thread, I think the satin rails look markedly better. More premium. And it plays nicely with your wheels. The black rails pull your eye to the roof on a white car. I would replace the black kidneys with titanium. To each his own. Sweet ride.

Thank you but I'm wrapping roof in gloss black as well. The wheels were only used for the photoshoot. Still debating on wheels and tires.

My mirror caps are also painted in jet black. The theme of the vehicle is moving to majority of Alpine White and Gloss black.

Just to update my own thread with another reference. You are able to wrap your own rails as well if you didn't want to tear apart your interior like me and still have the optional and cleaner aluminum rails all nice at resale

I agree that looks tremendous. I think wrapping would likely cost as much as parts/labor on rail replacement.

He told he if locals wanted to do it he charges $100 + vinyl cost unless you bring your own so very cost effective.

New trim will cost you $400-600 shipped and then install like on E70's is close to $1000 from the dealer

Makes me wonder with all these white X5s and no surround view.
Does the camera in the front look way out of place if you get a white X5 with matte black trim like your m-Sport models? I just think the camera might be an eyesore. I have a Black x5 so you can't even see the camera. Or does White X5 get a white camera ring to make it less visible?

Reviving this from the dead as our CA ordered a black on black on black with satin roof racks and the wife wasn't happy. Finally built up the courage to order the glossy black and install them.

Install took around 5 hours or so. I took my time and great care as to not break anything. Still broke a few plastic pieces but those can be easily and cheaply replaced.

It certainly isn't for the faint of heart but it also isn't impossible either. Saved a lot of dough in labor from the stealership too.

I did manage to get a few pictures, however, I didn't go too crazy as I wanted to get this done.

My car just got out of production and hopefully my CA placed the order correctly because I requested the black roof rails. I look on my build sheet from the dealer and the roof rails are listed as a line item under M Sport Package. Here's what they show as: 3MC High Gloss Roof Rails

Can someone confirm that these are the black, not aluminum rails?

I've had my X5 with M sports package for about a month. I had the dealer install black kidney grills as part of the deal but completely didnt notice the aluminum roof rails... Definitely not spending 2k for dealer to replace them....waiting on a quote from car wrapping place to get them blacked out. I will update when I find out.

on a car like that, it would make a huge difference for sure! excited to see your result. the ones I've seen wrapped seem to be kind of iffy in the edges towards the front as that is pretty detail oriented or coming up along the edges months in because of not tucking in very well originally. take your time. I'm working to just do the swap to the OEM black to keep things easy but love a good wrap.

any update?
