Taking my 2016 X5M for service next week. So, the fix for this is to place a spacer as recommended by the TSB?

thanks.

well, had mine "fixed" maybe 2, 3 weeks ago and while the noise was gone for a while, it's back. I'm pissed. I'm wondering what the new fix they might have for this. They weren't too clear on what work was done at the dealer (I asked and the SA said they placed a spacer or something, but she didn't seem to have a clue unfortunately or didn't seem to care), but when I initially called and spoke to the parts manager he was able to find the bulletin immediately. Nevertheless, I need to go back. Anyone else gone for the re-repair?

I'm really confused how a spacer between the hub and bearing will fix the issues. Just got mine done this week, only took 1.5hr. I sure hope the noise doesn't come back. If it does, I'm going to be pretty upset with BMW.

According to my service adviser the fix doesn't really fix anything. Noise will come back and its just the way it is when you practically have race car brakes on a street car/suv. I am fine with the noise and just chalk it up to having a super suv. There is always a trade off somewhere...

The clicking is from the hub rotating until it hits the retaining bolts. The spacer is actually a friction spacer that when torqued properly ,stops the slight hub twist.

The same way I can explain at 4100 miles I've had zero clicks.....luck,,,LOL.

Hard to say. For whatever reason the hub is not slipping and ringing the retaining bolts. It is just a very slight movement to make it click. It could have scrapped a tiny bit of metal up against the bolt to stop clicking. And it could come back. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed. No friction spacers yet and no clicks. Time will tell.

this has to be some sort of potential safety issue right? I know we're not talking about a bad wheel bearing left until the wheel falls off, but this can't be good. At the very least it's annoying. Count yourself lucky if you don't have it, I guess...

Hub slippage is never a good thing. Bolts are designed primarily for axial loads . Even though it is very slight, every click is a horizontal load.

That was my thinking. If it is hub slippage (is everyone confident of that?), then I'm not going to live with this thing. I've got to learn a bit more about the components on the front suspension. I tolerated it for probably about 500 miles before going for the first fix, and now it's been doing it for another 100 or so. Perhaps I should just drive until a wheel falls off?

This shows up in the M5 forums too, so it's nonsense that this can't be resolved. It sounds like some have had a permanent (?) fix, but my first try was not successful. I want to figure this out. Mine sounds pretty bad, lots of clicks both directions...

I'm going back in on Monday for the second "fix". 200 miles after the first spacer "fix" and the clicking returned. I'll let you know what happens.

I have clicks in both directions and I can hear them for speeds up to 20 mph. It's most noticeable with reflecting surfaces, like a parking garage, but I imagine it's present on all turns, not just the ones that I hear.
