Dinan Exhaust Owners: Happy? Would you still buy?

Hi All:

I'm trying to decide on an aftermarket exhaust, and I'm wondering how happy folks are with their Dinan setup. I want a throaty exhaust, not a raspy exhaust. Dinan seems to be the way to go, but I'm curious if there is any buyer's remorse?

Thanks in advance! All recommendations are appreciated.

I had Dinan and now Eisenmann Race.

For me Dinan was too similar to stock. Id say its maybe 10-15% louder to my ears. I got an exhaust for this car for sound not for power so to me i wanted something significantly louder than stock. The Eisemann race is a much louder system but doesn't drone on the highway either. Deep bassy tone. Sounds perfect to me.

I didn't notice enough difference over stock with my Dinan. If I had to do it over again I'd get a different exhaust or leave it stock.

Dinan is a pretty solid choice if you are not looking to go really loud. Eisenmann race is a significant change in volume. I have a slightly used Eisenmann Race if anyone is interested.

I wanted something louder than stock, but not obnoxious. The Dinan was a good compromise. It was relatively cheap, dealer-installed and no drone. I don't know that something 4 times more expensive would be that much better.

Swap your downpipes to catless and feel how dinan actually sounds

Just adding to this thread...as it helped me make my decision on a new exhaust.

Thanks to Ryan@IND for bringing the Eisenmann over to Fall-Line for the install this morning. I went with the Race w/4x102mm black chrome tips (thanks Alan L for the pics of that white beauty you have, really helped make my decision). Couldn't be happier with this exhaust - in my opinion this is the exhaust this car should have come with from the factory. It's an M and you should be able to hear it. Admittedly, the stock exhaust sounds fine in sport plus mode and is actually pretty tame in efficient mode on the highway, but I didn't buy this car to feel like I was back in the 50i MSport I just sold. Side note - the 50i MSport is not a bad car and I was very happy with it during the 3+ years I owned it before the M.

There is a little bit of drone on the highway, but in my opinion it is manageable. I'd trade that in any day for the sound this thing makes off the line. Shockingly, warm idle is pretty quiet...

Now I can't wait until after the break-in to get the Dinan Stage II installed to see how that changes the sound...leaves me just enough time to black everything else out

I just installed the Eisenmann Race Exhaust and it sounds amazing, just like this car should, but it is significantly louder than stock (specially compare to "efficiency" mode). It will be amazing if they made this exhaust and it had the options to have valves for a quitter ride. You will get some droning on the highway, I disconnected the induced sound, and it is slightly better, but the cabin is definitely louder than it used to be. If you like the quite cabin as it is stock, I would not go with this exhaust, but if you are willing to compromise slightly to have this car sounds as is should it is probably the best option!!

You might want to consider a valve exhaust (like the Eisenmann Sport, Akrapovic or Dinan) with catless downpipes. Assuming budget is not an issue.

What's the difference with x pipe? I heard it's a waste

exhaust

the stock exhaust actually sounds pretty good but no options to switch tips

main reason why i went with Manhart. very pricey but only option at the time.
the note was tame but a little louder than stock. the exhaust tips alone made it worth it.

I added HFC downpipes and that opened up everything. love the sound now.

regarding the question about needing x-pipe, its needed but you prob dont need MSR. there are cheaper options if you dont care about cutting your stock exhaust and what it looks like.

DME tuning that has the first set of MSR intake prototypes has an ebay special x-pipe, talked to him and said its the perfect size to replace the oem resonators.

he has videos on IG, sounds so much better. the car should of came with a x pipe

I had the Dinan tune, drop and exhaust on my 2012 X6///M which worked really well and never regretted it for a moment. I got the Akrapovic exhaust a couple of weeks ago for my F86 and LOVE it - amazing (perfect) look and sound.

I wonder how the sound will be if you coupled the DP with Akra! since Akra sounds way much more aggressive than Dinan

Bumping this as it seems to have the most comprehensive discussion on various exhaust options for the X5M.

From what I understand,

Eisenmann Race - Great sound, very loud (loudest), no valves, some drone
Eisenmann Sport - Close to stock sound, louder than stock, valved, no drone
Akrapovic - Best sound, louder than stock (not loud enough), valved, no drone
FI - Great sound, louder than stock, valved, no drone

Is this correct? Happy for anyone to chime in any add to this or correct me.

Akra gets louder with miles. Other than crazy expensive, it’s perfect if you want a 15% increase in sound with the valves open and zero drone with the valves closed. If you want LOUD with the valves open, it’s not for you.

Thanks.

It seems as though there is no real valved option which is particularly loud with valves open and more sedate with them closed.

I'm not sure I could justify the Akra cost when it's so little difference over stock, and that goes for Eisenmann Sport also.

Guess i'll just have to stick with the Eisenmann Race and destroy my neighbors ears. They cop it already with the MPE I have on the M3.

Valved Exhaust with high flow Downpipe’s is the best of both worlds.

Dinan is really too quiet and sounds almost stock.
But there are plenty options

I am running Manhart which sounds great with my DP but if the FI System was out earlier that would be my choice. Slightly louder in efficient but much louder in sport. Has a very unique tone
