Stone Chips on Front Door Edges by Fenders?

So I picked up my vehicle today due to some warranty work for the soft close and I decided to ask about what is included in my protection package that I purchased.

I asked them if they even did anything with the vehicle prior to me picking up because it seems that there were no work done on it.

Here is the part I'm concerned about: while walking around the vehicle showing the service representative where my stains are coming from that was hard to remove, I noticed chips on the edges of both front doors. The clearance of the doors are fine with plenty of room.

Is anyone else experiencing this with their front doors?

Top picture is left door. Bottom picture is right door.

I should have just waited j til tomorrow to post this. I was hoping someone can relate to it at some point of ownership.

Pics will be posted tomorrow when I get the vehicle back.

Agreed but running boards is a big no no for me in a Msport. Just does not belong in a sporty SUV . So I guess I rather deal with the chips.

I believe OP (correct me if I'm wrong) is talking about chips on the edge of the front doors where they meet the fender panel around the design crease. This seems to be a common issue as my 2015 also had the issue.

I brought it up when I took my car in for the first service and the dealer touched up/filled the chips and checked the alignment of the doors. Since then, it seems to be fine.

Here's a thread from last year about this issue with pictures:

BMWMacht, along those edges but lower by the fender flares. Also the damage is similar to stone Chips. 20 to 30 on each door along those edges in a 3" length.

My vehicle should be back today and I will make a video to show that it has nothing to do with the doors rubbing against the fender panel.

No running boards for me as I don't think this is neither the case of absence of running boards nor mud Flaps.

I agree. This situation is bizarre in the places those chips are. I have Alpine white and mine doesn't have chips in those places. I wonder if the dealer drove behind a truck with loose gravel dropping out the back? Or perhaps in a newly paved road with tons of loose black top? This is chip over kill -

I am hoping it is a result of what you mentioned. If not then I wouldn't know what to do if it occurs often. I'm thinking of 3m wrapping my whole doors.

Calgary BMW already said I don't have coverage /warranty on these paint situations but I'm still trying to figure what services or products the $2800cdn "Total Protection Package" is that they made me agree to as a condition of sale.

I'm still unsure from your close up picture.

Is the damage in this area illustrated below with the red arrow?
Can you share your X5's info as in is it Msport? Staggered wheel setup? Running boards? etc?

Sorry. The site wouldn't let me upload the picture at its original size so had to crop it. Yes it is in that wheel area and yes it is staggered wheel setup. At first I thought it was due to the staggered set up but looking at the trajectory angle it would have flown I ruled that out. Plus, I would have seen more responses from owners indicating same issues with the same staggered wheel setup or ones that uses spacers..

Msport no running boards.
20 inch wheels staggered.
Mineral white
No wheel spacers.

Interesting. Most of the stone chips and rash are located in the orange colored area near the rear wheels. I have them and every MSport lines Ive seen with about one year + ownership has them. I've never seen chips in that area though.

Yeah and that is why I am baffled. I've only had the vehicle since December 30,2016. I just hope they can make an exception and repair it.

I found out what the 2800 charge is for. The total protection package includes the interior protection and the exterior paint protection which claims that the vehicle will be easier to clean and will require no waxing. I wonder if this is like the ceramic coating? That's the only thing I can see that compares to it.

Funny thing is that when I rub the back of my hand on the paint it doesn't feel like it's been protected like how waxing is.

Baffled

Using Continental DSW06. I still cannot see that happening though. The wheel well flares out and the rocks would literally have to curve like a bad golf slice in order for it to happen.

It seems like it's an isolated case so I will just see what they say on Thursday when I bring my vehicle in.

I would not want to see that picture in original size & high resolution - it hurts my eyes too much to see it as is.

What year and how many miles and are you the original owner?

Hard to tell from the picture but I've never seen anything like that - what are all the black specs on the paint?

Sorry to tell you but, IMHO, you got ripped off bad for 2800 dollars for that stuff - mainly all profit margin for the dealer.
