Best Method for Private Sale of X5M?
Contemplating selling my 2016 X5M in DG with around 8K in miles. I don't need the utility of a bigger vehicle and I'm thinking of moving to a car despite really enjoying the vehicle. I'm not in a big hurry as I'm thinking of ordering something. Any ideas on the best method? I use eBay to sell some of other items but I've never used it on a vehicle. Thoughts?

i've traded my cars in the past, but get different quotes from different dealers, car max etc. i have only sold private party one time, but is there a lot of fraud out there? i would be worried about it.

I typically list my cars on Autotrader and Craigslist.
I really dislike Craigslist and the tire-kicking jokers on there, but if you are willing to wade through all the riffraff, that's where I've found buyers for the my last 3 cars (2 were BMW's). Same ad, same price on Autotrader, and I rarely got any hits. That's been my experience anyway. For an F85 X5M a different route might be required though. |

Selling cars with this kind of value would be very hard. Ones would come out cash to pay it off, and the ones who has the means usually wouldn't buy private party or even used vehicle, unless you hit a right person at the right time. And yes, there are so many frauds out there that you could easily get scammed.
I would try it for couple of weeks advertising, and only complete deal in person, at the bank for such transaction, with wired funds only. Or rid yourself the trouble, just trade it in. If you buying a car from the dealership, maybe you wouldn't get too bad of a trade in.

Any idea how much you'll be looking to sell for? I purchased a 2016 F85 with under 7k miles from a dealer in Denver yesterday for just under $80k, so that might have an impact on your decision.

Depending on where you live, you should factor in the potential tax savings. Many states allow you to pay tax only on the difference between the new vehicle and the trade. This can sometimes offset any additional funds you get from selling private party and you don't have to deal with how to get your payment as others have pointed out.
