Google maps over Bluetooth

I use google maps for gps.
I noticed it was update with lots of new setting.
One that catches my attention was the move from the regular select your audio to play over Bluetooth. When selecting it now places a call in the car to play the directions.

Are you experiencing the same?

Check your settings in Google Maps. There is a toggle that will force it announce your directions as a phone call. Mine is set so it plays over Bluetooth but not as a phone call.

Waze also has this feature.

I assume this is so you don't have to have your car set to bluetooth audio to hear it maybe??? I don't use this for this reason - I hate streaming via bluetooth. I either use the radio or music collection. I turn my audio to come thru the phone so I can still hear it. I wonder if this would sure this issue and flip over when a announcement was made???

Could not imagine it would be on apple and not android, but who knows???

I have Android, if you go into Settings, then Navigation Settings, you'll see it...

Nope. Samsung S9 Plus fully updated (unlocked) and the maps updated - still no go.

When I google search on it - it says this is for Apple only, which seems crazy, but you can do it with a 3rd party app like AudioBT or similar to use it like this. Not sure why some androids can do this, but looks like most cannot.

This is my Galaxy S9, although to be fair I'm still on Oreo, so not sure if the Pie update removed the option:

Sorry, I was thinking Play voice as a phone call and Play during phone call were the same thing but just worded differently as happens sometimes between Apple and Android - I'll get my coat
