Good luck over at Audi. They aren't anymore reliable than BMW or Merc. They also have ridiculous labor costs for simple things because of the way their cars are designed. My buddy (die hard audi guy) had to drop his entire engine out just to change out his turbos.

The fix Vince posted sounded promising so I have been waiting for his update. I skipped the X6M in December due to this issue and went with a X4 M40i for now but will consider going with a 2018 X6M if they get this resolved.
I had too many issues with the last two cars (Cayenne GTS and Macan GTS) that I couldn't buy a car with a known issue and no resolution. |

Mine is making the clicking noise now...at about 4500 miles.
So an unresolved clicking noise warrants a buy back / lemon law claim? Sure, it is mildly annoying...but...the X5M is so much fun. I barely notice it and only in very specific situations (parking garage). Or is there some serious safety thing I am overlooking? |

Great...keep us posted. I would think the other owners here would be interested in the repair details so they can request the same from thier dealer.

I am convinced it's the floating rotor design causing the clicking sound. The pins that combine the two piece rotors are designed to move/expand under heat but I guess they also move under load as well causing the sound in some cars. Willing to bet that if someone installs the once piece rotor design from the e70 X5M there will be no noise since it's a solid rotor design and it's a direct fitment for the F85 X5M.
Mine has 7K miles and does not click. Squeals like a pig though Alan |

Still no noise with new latest friction plates. I still get the pinging when the car is parked after a beat down but engineer said that's the brakes contraction and expanding. I've been vigilant on hard turns to see if it returns

I pick up my car its has been about 300+ miles and no clicking. I was told there was a new Bulletin with a fix that it was recent. Hopefully this will fix it for good! "Fingers Crossed"

I am still amazed BMW has this ongoing issue. I have +14,000 miles and still no clicking in garage tunnels. So they have to know why some don't click and some do

Mine now clicks pretty noticeably on right hand turns only (need to be close to steering lock). On left hand turns, I get a brake squeak noise even though I'm not touching the brakes. Not going in for a special visit for this yet - saving it for routine service in 4000 miles or so unless it gets worse.

Mine clicks very noticeably on right hand turns. Even the slightest steering effort to the right makes it click. Straight line and left turns are quiet.
Stock 2017 X6M with 3200 miles. No fixes done as of yet. Will address it with the next service but from what I read here nothing seems to fix it. |

I thought I'd weigh in here. I've got a 2016 M235i, so not an X5 or X5M, however, mine has been clicking in the exact same way as described in this thread. A clicking / metallic ticking, primarily when turning right. I hear it a lot in parking garages. My dealer has tried four times to fix it, various things, the last one was a wheel bearing, that didn't help. They are doing new pads and rotors and also the friction spacer tomorrow based on feedback from BMW NA. I should have it back on Thursday. For reference, my clicking sound sounds like this:
http://picosong.com/juA4/ I assume this is the same sound you all are hearing on your X5s? |

Mine clicking as well! And i put a spacer when i get my car lowered on ACS.. the clicking noise gone.. after few hundred miles, the clicking sound came back.. not as loud tho.. i will just ignore the clicking as some owners here had the noise disappeared without fixing..

there isn't a fix. apparently. these friction washers are only band aids. unless bmw re-engineers the part the sound will continue to return. and its not the 2 piece rotors bolts making the sound. its the splines between the rotor and hub, the tolerances are off, and when they tighten and put friction plates everything is good until it all loosens up slightly again, and boom....baseball card in spokes sound is back. maybe when enough people get upset and demand buybacks will they take it seriously. I'm back in for number 2 repair on number 2 truck, when it comes back, and it will, I will be looking for my 2nd buyback.

I'm starting to think the same thing. My dealer has been good so far and willing to work with me to find the issue, so I'm willing to give them a chance. However, I've read quite a bit from people who report the problem, across a huge variety of BMW vehicles. That's not confidence inspiring. I've thought of doing a buy back / lemon law, but that would likely not work out for me positively from a finance perspective, I've put a number of upgrades on the car.
