Smile A few questions before placing an order (Please help)

Hi!

I am new to the world of BMW, but I am considering placing an order of the 2014 X5. I have done some searches on the forum but I still have a few questions:

1. Is the "ACC Stop & Go + Active Driving Assistant" BMW's version of the Distronic Plus? If yes, then is there also a collision warning system (like Mercedes') where the system would be active at speeds of >20mph and applies the brakes for you if required? And when necessary, bring the car to a complete halt?

2. Does the "Active Driving Assistant" and "Driver Assistance Plus" provide any "active" driving assistance? Like, other than warning the driver in the form of brief steering wheel vibrations, can the system intervene and correct the direction of travel as required? Because I really like this type of safety features on my E class sedan.

3. When I test drove a X5 35d (the dealer did not have the gasoline version available), I did not hear any of the the loud diesel clatter at idle (impressive!), however, I felt the throttle response was a bit soft. Thus, does the gasoline version of the X5 have this issue as well?

4. Which type of tires do you get if I choose the M Sport body package with 19" M Light alloy Double Spoke wheels?

5. How is the winter driving (snow and icy conditions) in an X5? I understand Porsche Cayenne has locking differentials, but the BMW salesman told me that X5 is capable of sending 100% of torque to any of the four wheels.

6. Lastly, can someone please recommend a salesman in BMW Seattle or BMW Bellevue?

Thank you for your help!

Advice

Just ordered mine through BMW Seattle 2 weeks ago.
Put your specs on Edmunds and print out the results (should be 3-4K under MSRP). They will match the price.

We did not think the throttle response was the least bit weak on the gasoline version. My wife is coming from a lexus rx 350 and she thought the x5 35i was a beast. It even sound really throaty. You can tell the type of tire from the website but you will NOT get brand specific info until you see it generally. Read the fine print to make sure your rims come with the type of tire you want, i.e. All Season v. Sport. I'm assuming in your neck of the woods you want All Season. Best of luck and enjoy the ride

I got Michelin's.

Picked it up in the snow and drove around in the snow later that afternoon. The car drives great.

1. Yes and yes, except the Collision Mitigation System is active from stationary even when the ACC is not engaged. It also detects pedestrians.

2. No. It includes Blind Spot monitoring and lane wander warnings but wont correct. You get the steering wheel vibration and flashing warning triangle on the wing mirrors. Outside NA if you order DA+ then you also get Traffic Jam Assistant - this will drive the car up to 25mph on Highways. So it accelerates, brakes and steers the car.

3.The throttle response is not soft on the 35d, unless you are in Eco Pro mode. Comfort mode is good, but Sport gives instant throttle response.

4. Pot luck - it really could be anything. Summer tires, or All Seasons, Continental/Goodyear/Michellin, I've seen them all fitted. My MSport with 19" came with ContiSportContact 5 summer tyres

5.There area few videos on the net showing the F15 in snow. Car magazine in the UK has a free iPad app with a video feature of the F15 in snow. It performs superbly in all cases when fitted with winter rubber.

In the USA, the 19" wheels will come with run flat, all season tires. I believe they will be either Michelin, Goodyear, or Pirelli. If you opt for 20" wheels, you will get staggered run flat summer tires.

BMW UK say the 20" are run flat all season tyres......based on comments from this site I don't belive them so when I take delivery in April it could get 'interesting'!

Thank you for all of your replies. Right now, I am having a hard time deciding between 19" and 20" wheels. Do you guys think I would be able to feel some difference in ride comfort between the two? I will not be getting the Dynamic Handling Package.

I test drove an m50d and another M sport 30d both equiped with 20' : seemed comfortable to me. You should test drive both at your car dealer to make your choice.

Anyway, I would go for 20' because they'll look better (F15 has large wheel arch and 19' might be too small). If you go for M sport, I think 469M looks better than 467M ; if you go for any other line, then 449 and 451 looks great also.

20" Free Upgrade? Thought you got 19" and anything larger is an optional extra....at least in the UK. If its FOC in US you guys really do get a much better deal than us in the rest of the world - we are getting seriously ripped off by BMW

Rip-off Britain it is! Even with a favorable $/£ exchange rate (1.68 today) we pay almost £1 for every $1 for our BMW's!

My X5 on order has a list of £61,000 which would equate to $102,223.80 - it's probably nearer $75,000 minus discount too...pisses me off big time!
