Sunroof leak
I have a 2014 X5 and it has a pretty serious sunroof leak. It creates a pretty loud wind noise on the highway, to the point that I often close the sunshade to block out the noise. Also, when I go through a carwash, the water literally dumps in all along the back edge of the glass, pouring on top of the sunshade.
So my questions are: 1. If water is on top of the sunshade, will it make it to the drains or will it end up going somewhere else where it may cause more damage? 2. Has anyone had this issue and is there an adjustment, or do I need to replace the seal? I have tried the sunroof reset and it didn't make any difference. I need to figure something out. I can't have a car like this and be afraid to wash it. Thanks |

I had the same problem. The noise has not yet been solved, I think the seal should be changed.
What I discovered is that it drains the water in the upper part of the trunk. Clean the output shown in the pic. That solved my sunroof leak. |

There is also a drain hole near the windshield side of the sunroof, one on each side. Make sure it’s not blocked. Also just replace the seal as it’s being mentioned with age it looses its shape n sealing ability.

So I went ahead and changed the sunroof seal this weekend. Not a bad job, except it started pouring rain after I removed the rear glass and the seal.
I found that the old adhesive came off pretty easily with some isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth. The hardest part was getting the glass realigned. I suggest leaving the screws just snug, then closing it, and tightening them with it closed. it is a pain in the ass to get at the 2 front screws with it closed, but it can be done. Went through a car wash afterward and no leak! I'm happy! |

No, I think that is the shorter one. It needs to be 4300mm long.
Here is the link to the one I bought. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |

X3 2011 same thing
My X3 leaked for long time until I found it is the grommets around the rear hatch hinge.
At first I thought it is rear glass and almost replaced it thankfully I did not. And yes it is noisy on highway . For now i put some silicone around the grommet and see if it leaks again. |
