Oil in Vacuum Tank

I was replacing my spark plugs this weekend and noticed the vacuum tank on the top of drivers bank (11657612487) has what I assume is oil in it, about 1/6 full.

Other forums posts here and beyond say to replace vacuum pump but I have no other symptoms. At 69k miles it idles perfectly, has strong performance, is smooth when causally driving. No CELs or issues reported in ISTA. Could it still be a pump?

I did not notice this when I did the crankcase ventilation hoses 6k miles ago.

The sole issue I have, the reason for plugs, is on the highway when feathering throttle to maintain speed I sometimes get this burble which sounds from the exhaust and like a misfire but no misfires are present. It's faint but obvious if you know normal.

Highly recommend NGK 97506 plugs. Moved from OE plugs with only 17.5k with stage one and definitely picked up some overall smoothness and throttle response.

46 views and no responses, I thought this would be a simple one for someone wiser then myself on this platform.

I ordered a replacement vacuum tank and am simply going to replace it for now to address and will see if it fills with oil again.

My guess is that with oil in it, It still functions as it should, it just has 1/6th less capacity.

Thanks Tony. I was going to reach out on your video.

It doesn't appear you can get just the diaphragm from BMW, looks like they want you to buy the whole vacuum pump - can you confirm?

Yes its an aftermarket part, you can find it on Amazon/ebay but i would check it first before even getting anything from anywhere. It will take you 5 minutes tops

Can you post a link to where you bought the replacement?

Thanks Tony!

I wasn't sure what the state of mine was going to be so ordered a complete valve assembly to ensure I could reassemble same day.

The valve was definitely not in an ideal state. Mine broke apart like yours when I went to remove the valve from the pump. I had to use small needle-nose pliers to obtain the orange piece and black screen. At 70.5k miles, the orange piece was no longer round, had a few small cracks in it, and definitely the source of the oil in my vacuum reservoir. I can see how the condition would cause vacuum oddities.

I cleaned all the vacuum lines and replaced the vacuum reservoir (BMW-11657612487).

A quick drive following service does yield a slight improved throttle response and, fingers crossed, will solve my highway "burble" summarized in my original post.

I love how BMW's answer to this is replace the whole pump!

Improved throttle response but did not address my highway throttle burble. The search continues.

Do you have a little burble/stumble in RPMs? Mine does it around 2500-2700 RPM. Kind of jumps/lurches a bit. No CEL.
Wondering if this could possibly be it

Does this occur for you on the highway when maintaining speed, feathering throttle? Can you immediately make it stop with changing throttle input?

That's what I have going on. Some days its worse then others and sometimes not existent at all. Very odd. ISTA shows a green across all modules.
