OK So I finaly got around to moving S1 to "2". Also dialed back S2 from "5" to "0". I have to say I the torque seems to be applied across a much wider RPM range. I need to run 0-60 times to compare to the 5/1 I was runing last week, but it feels much better.

Yeah, definitely do the OBD2 link scanner with dashcommand app or torque app (make sure all your variables are exact): http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...fications.aspx. If RaceChip said it doesn't do anything, they are either not testing their chips thoroughly enough or you're experiencing a placebo effect .

I'm still on S2 = 4, S1 still haven't moved it (was on vacation)
Any new updates?

What is the lunge effect ? how does it feel ?

It's still smooth for the most part but when driving slower i don't know if its my engine (N20) lol crappy always feels weird in EcoPro. Comfort and Sport always drives smoother. 4 on EcoPro is greater than ever because each tick definitely made it faster. Also, at 4 the gas consumption increased is noticeable but the car pulls like a beast, I test my 0-60 or 20-90 on purpose when I'm driving with my gf and ever since setting F u hear her "like oooooo sometimes omg" definitely at 4 my dad got worried that I am driving too (just because it pulls insane). Also it seems 100miles on the setting makes it even better previously I was only testing 30-60 miles on each setting. So far setting 4 i've driven over 100miles (almost a month) since its been so cold here i haven't taken long trips.

Another forum member with a 328 was told by RC (waiting to see if it RC-USA or Germany) that he should leave S2 on F and instead increase S1 one tick up. F/2

What I meant by lunge is the power comes on all at once as opposed to a more linear application. I find it interesting that petrol guys are being told to turn up S1 from RC but RC also telling us the S1 has no affect on petrol? : I will have to switch S1 back to 1 to see if it produces any noticeable change.

To be honest setting 3 and 4 felt like I had a X3 35i after test-driving my friends X3 35i, funny that was the setting where I was matching him and then on 4 leading 0-60 run by 1-2ft.

I contacted RC-USA and Germany both have not advised to change S1 for petrol use. They are firm on S1 has no use on petrol, but you have reported differently right?

Wrong. Stock setting is S1=0 S2=E for the F15 35d. You are at S1=3 currently, that's fine. Right now Trojanlaw and a few others like the S1=3, S2=0 setting. That seems to give the best power and smoothness while maintaining good mpg.

Thank you opasha, I have noticed that after 3500rpm there is no much power, my 2011 x5 35d on the other hand (is tuned by rochetchip no tuning box) pulls hard all the way to redline

Yes, I think that's why 42pilot recommended changing the S2 for better balance. Diesels can change both S1 and S2, while petrol can only change S2. S1 deals mainly with torque while S2 deals with power.

I would do S1=3, S2=F or S1=3, S2=0. For the diesel, the fuel amount (S2) is only changed the higher your fuel timing (S1) is. Stick with what I've recommended because that is info tested by 42pilot.

Give it some time and take notes.

I not only look for off idle throttle response, roll-on power (like 45 mph to 70 mph for example), smooth acceleration, but I also listen to the motor. I noticed with the RC, too much timing (S1 = 3 or higher) adds a bit a rattling to my engine. This was at idle and at a certain RPM between 1700-ish to 2300-sh rpm. It could have been poor fuel too, which tells me I need to be conservative - you never know what your gonna get. So, listen for anything out of the normal from stock. If something doesn't seem or sound right, go back one click. Just because the CEL doesn't come on, doesn't mean the setting is safe for your motor. CEL means it busted an ECU parameter which means it was a significant event.

I am now at S2=0 S1=2 and really like it. It's quiet, powerful, torquey, smooth idle and acceleration. For my car, this one works well. The economy has dropped nearly 2mpg, but I think that's me driving a lot more aggressively

EDIT: My term "timing" above means when the fuel is introduced to the cylinder. On a diesel we use fuel - on a gas motor, we advance the spark. Too much timing (adding the fuel too early in the combustion cycle) will cause the fuel to ignite too soon - that is, well in advance of top dead center. The result will be the combustion will try to push the piston down before the crank and piston are at top dead center, and add lots of heat in terms of exhaust gas temps (EGT). This is very hard on the tops of pistons and rod bearings. If you listen, you will hear your motor tick, or tap or rattle. In a gas motor, this is pre-ignition or detonation. Either way, this is bad and will shorten the life of your motor significantly.

Thanks 42pilot i will be listening for any abnormally and report back.

I usually start with a tuning box but always end up doing a full tune with Rocketchip lets see what happens

5 was the most prowerful but also threw a CEL having to do with a air flow fault. The light went away on its own but the code was still in the system, light never came back in the 2 weeks I had it on 5. 5 wasn't the smoothest either, but it did produce a 5.44 0-60. So if I know I am going on a road rally with the boys then I'll switch to 5. Otherwise I'll probably settle on something between 0-4 for everyday driving.

Drove it today definitely has more power but the power delivery is not as smooth/refined as it was, engine makes more noise, still not as strong as My tuned E70 but is much better that what it was in S1/3-S2/E
