Bottom line is JD Power is as reliable as the Marquis Who's Who books. You pay, you get in.
Agree, last time I bought GM or Toyota, I would get annoying calls within 3 days on initial quality survey
They would keep calling and hassling until you filled out their worthless survey online
I told one lady interviewer I just drove home 3 miles and parked my truck and went on vacation and she kept asking questions how do I feel about 29 different quality things, I said I haven't even driven it
Would not take no for an answer this is the initial survey
How are the seats, how is the infotainment how's the paint, how's the styling
I said call in a month or two when I have a chance to test it
Still she insisted on completing the survey
You see the GM commercials, they talk about initial quality survey only

I always love reading quotes like this. Like, why are people still so surprised? South Korea is one of the most technologically-advanced countries in the world, with a culture that puts a huge emphasis on STEM education. How are we still surprised that their home-grown companies put out great products when they have been doing so for awhile now?

Their lawnmover are decent though...

These Quality articles are very subjective, quality is a very personal thing, and is not easy to measure.
I completely agree. But this metric does tell you more and more Hondas and Acuras are having more problems.

I had a 2008 accord coupe v6 before I got into a 2008 e92 335i and I suppose I got lucky with the n54 but I never had anything go wrong all the way until I got my 340i. I bought car from my dad in 2013 and only issue was ignition coil replaced under warranty.

My accord had a bullet proof engine but my nav screen went out, my battery cable went bad and a couple other things like weather seals on the doors coming undone.

I simply feel the metric matches my experience

To be fair - only 3 Buick's sold in 2017, so the results are a little skewed.

My plastic deck Honda Harmony was great my neighbor bought the same model at a discount as he worked at a nearby Honda store. His failed and Honda did nothing not even offering goodwill for their dealership employee. I felt super bad for the guy. Horrible testimonial.

Meh. I've yet to be convinced that they score high because of high quality vs the vast majority of the cars are garage queens with minimal content.

The study uses a very limited timeframe which is the past 12 months for 2015 vehicle. Here's an excerpt from the study:

"The study, now in its 29th year, measures the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the past 12 months by original owners of 2015 model-year vehicles. A lower score reflects higher quality, and the study covers 177 specific problems grouped into eight major vehicle categories. The overall industry average improves by 14 PP100 to 142 PP100 from 156 PP100 in 2017."

Nope. Dont think so since their number one selling vehicle is the macan.

Um, I'm Korean.

I'm proud of the motherland. I'm not surprised by the outcome, I'm happy that they've turned their brands around a lot.

Not that JD Power surveys really mean anything.

My wife has a 2014 MDX. Horrific infotainment setup. Worse, the phone pairs when it feels like it and we still can't figure out how to change settings. Other Acuras have this same 3 level setup and it might be the worst engineered POS I've ever used.

So in short, I think Acura's rating is probably too high

Precisely why the better half has kept her 2011 MDX. The dual screen, infotainment system in the newer MDX's (and all Acura's) is absolutely horrible. At 115k miles it's been pretty reliable and it's a great long distance traveler. I was expecting her to want something new since I recently got a new car, but she's good for another couple years...then it's probably an X3.

Oh, my Honda lawnmower has been a beast for the last 15 or so years.

Funny how cars with an average mileage less than half of the competitors can have less problems, isn't it? Exposure is a bit different by comparison. That coupled with the fact that they never change anything major all help with these surveys. Add in the common engines, gearboxes, chassis platform with Audi/VW and they'll make the needed corrections prior to product launch.

+1. IMO the VDS is largely irrelevant because it only covers first 3 yrs of ownership. I really wish they stretched it out to 5 years.
That gets worse for bmws don't do it. Lol
