At loss for words...

Just noticed this today. I don't know how it got there, I don't know what it is. It's not a bug. Anyone else's x5 do magic? I'm going to tint them soon anyway but man that bothers me.

It’s so dried and shriveled, I guess a spider is the only logical sense. But it doesn’t look like a spider though close up.

I have the same thing, looks very similar.
When I got my vehicle, a CPO, I did a deep cleaning and found some traces of spiderwebs in the battery compartment and by the electrical panel on the right side. Later on I noticed the very dead spider behind the right taillight lens.

Does your vehicle happen to be a 2014? If so, maybe they had a spider infestation at the plant at that time. Might be more X5's with spiders in them, who knows.
I could be totally wrong, but my guess is that the remnants is of a spider native to SC.

In all seriousness, those are factory installed spiders with the intent to keep your car clean for longer. There's a strong scientific evidence that when you kill a spider, it rains. By putting the spider in the housing of the light, your spider can't be killed, hence it won't rain, hence your car stays clean for longer.
Sadly, contrary to the transmission fluid, those spiders are not lifetime certified. It might be advisable to ask at the dealership for a replacement, maybe even as a good will act.

Hope that clarifies this situation.

Insects get trapped in all sorts of places! At least it’s not somewhere more visible like the inside of your instrument cluster.

I don't think that will work, there isn't a bulb there. I mean if the spider got in, there must be a way in I guess.
