Question Considering a 2016 X5 for a 3rd Vehicle...

Greetings,

So I've been looking at a very specific vehicle for a daily driver (for me that means less than 8k miles annually):

2016 X5 xDrive 35i or 50i with M Sport Pkg (must have) - As Loaded as I can find her! I also have the exact color scheme I want/prefer.
Why this year? Simple: Lease Returns.

What I am specifically wanting feedback from you all are:

Any pros or cons for the 35i vs 50i other than Fuel consumption? Known issues? Recalls that BMW has or should address? Any particular option that is a must-have if at all possible?

My goal is to get one with: Drivers Asst - Exec Pkg - Lighting Pkg - Pano - Asst Plus - Cold Wthr - Heads Up. Is the B&O sound system that much better than stock or H&K??

Thanks in advance for your helpful input and suggestions!

- Marcus

I personally prefer the 35i.
BMW has been very strong with their inline6.

The 50i, so far doesn't have that many issues as the previous or newer V8TT.

So this particular V8 in the 2016 or 2017 was/is the Sweet spot?

I'd figure more owners here would chime in....

That's VERY reassuring considering the F01 I've owned for years (still love her though) and the plethora of issues plaguing the N63. Although all things considered, I haven't had it bad as some.

Nice! I'm eyeballing a immaculate 50i that is loaded and perfect color scheme for us!

Although I've read how a simple tune can turn the 35i into a beast...

Our 35i has the BMW tune and exhaust. Don't know that I would call it a beast, but it doesn't lack for power.

The V8 definitely gets the nod if you need the extra performance, we just didn't what the fuel mileage penalty.

You can't go wrong with either choice.....

That same simple tune turns the 50i to a monster.

Youre driving is similar to mine (mileage wise). 50i will always be more fun. 35i more economical with still some fun.

BTW, the main option to look for is DHP. I wouldn't be able to consider another X5 without it.

Agree with this assessment. 35i is certainly more than capable an engine for a vehicle as big as the X5.

Thx for that option mention! I was actually wondering just how crucial this option is?

And I appreciate ALL of your feedback guys.

It's worth it to seek one out and and drive to feel the difference.

It took me about 3 months to find a 50i with DHP and Msport. I got lucky and found one within a few hours driving distance in Austin that was very well equipped.

I'll take your word as a owner. What is the primary difference/advantage?
