Use the "Send to --> Car" option on Google Maps. Input your BMW Assist-registered e-mail address, and it will be sent to Messages in iDrive within 60 seconds.
you can also use the BMW Remote app, which uses google for its search it's search function. Then just hit send to vehicle.

This is the part that I'm trying to figure out. Am I automatically registered when I got the X5? Do I have to call BMW or hit that "SOS" to get connected and register for BMW Assist separately?

You're right. The Remote App does have this function. But I'm interested in sending address specifically from Google Maps because, if I'm meeting someone, then I can have them send the address straight to my car (while I'm driving) without the other person having this app.

Hi Zip, you have to register with BMW Assist here in Canada when you picked up your vehicle, or the dealer registers you and gives you a 4-PIN temporary password. You can also press the SOS button and register via your vechile.

BMW Assist gives you the basic subscription (Roadside Assistance, Dial for Service, Address Book)

Remote App, Google MyInfo, and other applications is a SEPARATE subscription and it is about $1,000, depending on your dealer.

Here is the error you will receive, when you have BMW Assist Basic Subscription:

Hmm...I see. Better Press that SOS button and find out if it's any different in the states. Thanks for the info!

Remote app is standard, at least in the US. Under safety and security:

BMW Assist eCall™ includes Emergency Request (SOS button) and Automatic Collision Notification (includes a 10-year subscription)
• BMW Remote Services includes Stolen Vehicle Recovery, Remote Door Unlock and My BMW Remote app (includes a 10-year subscription)

BMW Apps is also listed as standard under instrumentation and controls. I don't think that has anything to do with the google maps outside of the remote app, but I believe is related to connected drive and the apps within.

That said, the error originalgoods13 posted above is for the Connected Drive app, that is not the same thing as the My BMW Remote app. I haven't tried the Connected Drive app in the X5 yet but it should work. I'll give it a try later. Either way, the Connected Drive app has nothing to do with what Z is looking for.

I just tried the send to car feature in Google Maps directly (outside of My BMW Remote app), from my laptop, and it was in my F30 by the time I got my keys and went to the garage.. I'll check the F15 later but it should be there too. I don't have anything beyond the basic BMW Assist subscription in my F30 either.

This feature is disabled in the USA, presumably due to liability concerns.

Have you tried adjusting the HUD settings in Idrive?

You can customize how the HUD is projected on the windshield. You can configure what is displayed in the HUD, rotate the text, move the image up/down. Can't remember if left/right adjustment is available for the HUD, will have to check my F30.

Turning up the brightness on the HUD helps with polarized sunglasses!

Was your MPG based on the OBC or actual manual calculations? I ask because my car's OBC is 10-15% optimistic.

^this. But what's awesome is somehow Chrysler found a loophole (sarcasm intended) that allowed them to do this, in the US. So it must not be a legal issue, just something BMW decided.

I know this because I had the extreme fortune to have a Chrysler Town and Country at my disposal from Hertz while on a recent business trip.. Key fob both opened and closed the massive tailgate, with a cute beeping sound while it did. Ahhhh, nothing like a minivan to rip up and down mountain roads you've never explored before.

Yeah, I find you sometimes have to already know the address for it to be useful. I have had success searching too though, probably 75% of the time.

I didn't mean to imply that the decision to remove the feature was due to some kind of federal regulation or anything like that. I have had cars that allowed remote closing of the tailgate.

I assume that the absence of the feature is a decision made by BMWNA out of concern for consumer liability, but I don't know that for sure.

Visual Warning for Collision Warning?

The reason for possible collision is not paying attention (sleepy or what not). There is no use of Visual Warning particularly in Collision case.

Good Review.

How did you manage to install the front license plate? Did you have to drill on bumper?

I am hoping for a non surgical way

The new Google Maps doesn't have the "send to car" feature, but the old (classic) version does. To access that from Google Maps, click on the help question mark at the bottom right part of the screen. Then click on "return to classic Google Maps" where you'll find the "send to car" feature (click "more" for your point of interest, then "send" and you'll see "car" as a send to option).

I think we all have made similar assumptions (since so far we're left to assume due to lack of information out there on the topic…).

I was just saying I myself had been assuming it was tied to some sort of a regulation issue, until I saw it on the minivan.. Since Chrysler does have it, seems silly BMW turns it off for us.

Yes. For Collision Warning, there's a visual warning. A red car icon comes on HUD or on the instrument cluster when you get too close to the car ahead of you. I can't remember if there's a beep associated with it or not.

Nevertheless, you are right. Visual warning alone seems pointless. Collision Warning would be better off with Steering Wheel vibration associated with it, along with visual and audio.
