Shifter question

Guys.. when you shift your shifter from park to drive or reverse, do you feel a slight click like the shifter slid into something and engaged? The reason I ask this is because on my previous cars 2010 535i and 2013 X5 the shift was just smooth and I had no feelings of the shifter clicking.

Thanks.

Yes! I even took the car to the dealer due to this click. You can feel it and hear it. My 2013 X3 did not do this so I was concerned. 2 service reps at the dealer said it was normal. They gave me some overly long reason that I tuned out to because it sounded like a story... something about the electric gearbox or something. Whatever it is, they said not to worry about it.

It is nice to hear I am not the only one.

Yeah I am not too worried about it but since it did not do the same on my previous BMW's I was just wondering if I had a defective part. Everything seems to work properly though.

I am hoping for others to chime in to confirm

Kzang , That's mean the car still new.
Had that when the car was brand new. Now is gone already.
The only thing that still sticky in my car is the blinker stalk. I may bring that to service though. It is time where it gets annoying now.

Ben,
So when you go from Park to D or R you don't feel or hear any clicking? Hmmm.

Not anymore. It was there when the car was new.
Now I still can feel a very faint of clicking, but not as bad as when it was new.

Strange. I had a 2013 E70 loaner with the base transmission and i noticed the shifter clicking or making some sort of noise that i could feel. Neither of my 2013 or 2015 F10's did this. Completely smooth and silent in the shifter area new or used.

Yea, so far with my current and previous F10, all very smooth.
Also the loaners I got, 3 series, 4 series, X1, X3, all have smooth shifter.

Without going out in the parking lotto check, I think mine clicks into P, R and D...as well as when you shift into N from either R or D.

Mine is silent. In fact the entire vehicle is really solid, except for the whistle noise from the drivers outside mirror with the drivers window open.

Not only the noise but there is a slight feel of a click too when engaging into D or R.

Mine has an textile and audible click when I move from D to P, like it is clicking into Park.

Same here xweb10 but it also does it from P to D or R. I don't think it is an issue, or at least it hasn't been so far. I've just never had this before with electronic shifters from my previous BMW's

Same here... I had a 2012 X3, and it never made a sound. After a hiatus with Mercedes, I took delivery of an X6 on Saturday and noticed both the clicking and slight tactile sensation when shifting out of P to D or R. I'm relieved to hear this is normal, particularly after trading in a '15 C400 that was riddled with small warranty issues that made enjoyment of the car impossible. I love the F15/16s.
