Cool phone call from BMW Factory

I got a call this morning from BMW. I spoke with a guy who said he was personally involved with actually building my 2017 X5 35d.

He just wanted to check in and make sure I like the vehicle, see if there are any issues or concerns, any build defects/problems and to ask if I had any technical questions about the car mechanically or any electronic/Infotainment related questions!

I was going to tell him about the weak HVAC, but I decided not to...they have to know by now. Since my 35d is flawless (so far), I just thanked him for the call and told him the build quality and fit and finish is one of the best ever on an X5!

Anyone else get a call from the person responsible for actually building your car?

I haven't received a call yet. When was your X5 built? and when did you get a call?

That's not bad. If they call me I'm going to politely ask them to fix the key on the next version so it doesn't accidentally open the tailgate just from putting it in your pocket!

This happened 2x with my X5 40e and so far 1x with my X5 35d :-O

The one time, I came out of a restaurant after lunch (at least an hour)...and my tailgate was open!!! Omg, thankfully no one swiped all the stuff I had in the back!

My X5 was built 4/2017. I bought it 9/2017. I received the call today, 11/13/17.

This is my 7th X5, 12-13th new BMW and I have had four new Rolls-Royce Motor Cars...and this is the first time I have ever received a call from the BMW Group. It was actually kind of great.

I have never heard of anyone ever getting a call like this from any automaker....ever. isn't this a privacy issue?

i talked to a family friend that is very very well known where im from(because this just seems fishy to me)and he says he hasn't ever received a call from anyone either and he has over 200 cars right now old and new.

Don't know. How is it a privacy issue? When you leased, financed or purchased the car...they have your full name, address, home and cell #, Social Security #, etc... The call was from BMW, not some call center in India!

I received a follow up email within mins from the man I spoke with at BMW. He provided his name, extension and the telephone # is a BMW #.

you said a guy that helped build your car....at the factory is how I read it. why would they have your number? they just build the cars, they don't get your phone number, the salesman deal with you, not the guy that helps build your car.

if it was a salesman that's another story, I'm sure everyone has gotten that call but it doesn't sound like it to me. where is your car being built?

It's very possible, read the op's history and present on cars, it's an added touch of hospitality and care for a valuable customer.

Not my salesguy, I know him personally and he just texts me...we have bought a ton of cars from him

The call came from BMW, SC factory. Of course my number was provided to him by BMWNA. The man who called did not call me from his cell phone, on his lunch break!! LOL It was a really nice, personal touch. I appreciated it a lot!

Privacy issue? lol wow. Just a sign of the times that we hear a really great story like this and the first thought is a negative twist about being a privacy issue....where are we going as a society...

Nevertheless, if its legit, then that's pretty cool and i would've appreciated the personal touch and concern as well. That's just something you don't see anymore. Especially from large corporations like car makers

I got a call from the guy that made my foot long sub today just to see if it was made right to order....

does anyone else notice how unrealistic this sounds? am I crazy to think that people BS on forums to sound important??

regardless...i call BS. it's my opinion, you don't have to prove it to ME, because who am I? I just like to call BS where I see it.

but if you prove it, I'll apologize. nevertheless, carry on.

1000% agree. I did not even think for a second about a Privacy issue!! Even, if the guy was some random BMW employee, and not someone actually responsible for building my car, I thought it was awesome that BMWNA would take the time to call me and make sure I am happy, satisfied and to see if I have have any issue, concerns or questions! This was a great call and move on BMW's behalf!!!

I'm a realist who has been around the block and can detect BS very well. I call it as I see it. I don't believe anything without proof especially what I read on the internet.

Don't do that. Don't throw personal insults because somebody disagrees with you. Your comment is inappropriate and doesn't belong on this forum.

This is all true. When I purchased my 17 X5 back in Sept 2016, the manufacturing facility called my cell to make sure I was happy with my vehicle. The timing was just right because I did have some complaints about the build quality. I told them I was not happy with the quality control. The plastic backing of the passenger seat was already separating from the leather seats, I also had some clear coat problems on one of the exterior side mirrors. The local dealership ended up addressing my problems.

The place I usually order pizzas from often calls an hour or two later to make sure I was happy with the food and the service. I'm unable to prove it though, so perhaps I'm making it up to sound like an important pizza customer.

I don't get why it's so unbelievable that the buyer of a luxury car would get a call from someone on the production line. I would guess that most buyers (I guess not you, but most) would think it was a nice touch to get a call from someone who was actually involved in putting their car together. On the other side, it's likely good for morale and quality if the people building the car occasionally get an opportunity to connect with buyers and can feel a little extra pride in the work they've done.

I get what you are saying but since you asked, here is a scary example of where we are going as a society...

https://globalnews.ca/news/2879276/p...-experts-warn/

Here are the highlights of the article:

Closing a 23andMe account doesn’t necessarily mean the company’s copy of your genetic data will disappear:

“We allow customers to close their accounts. It’s a bit complicated by our regulatory compliance for laboratories in the United States, which requires that raw information be held for a minimum of 10 years. The information will be de-identified, but will continue to be stored for that set amount of time.”

DNA is crammed with information.

“You’re going to be stripped naked if someone has access to this information, in terms of what they know about you. That’s what disturbs me.”
