Service due 2015 x5
Hello, bought my first BMW over the last weekend and when I got it home noticed it was 3k miles over due for service. Took it to my local dealer and they said it needs an oil change at 140, vehicle inspection at 100, and cabin filter at 100. Do those prices seem fair?
Also, what exactly is the vehicle inspection and is it required for the warranty? It's a 2015 xdrive35i 29k miles with 2.5 years still left on the warranty. Thanks!! |

Is that for all MY2015 by default? I thought free maintenance was an option, no? sorry I'm confused. I have 2014 bought CPO and I don't know if it has any free maintenance transferred from previous owner, but it was a lease - so i assume I'm out of luck?

My local dealer said the maintenance plan for 2015s and new don't transfer to the new owner and you have to pay to have it refreshed to the new owner. The cost is 700 dollars and they can't do that till I get the title. After adding up the maintenance costs for the next 2 years, it didn't make sense to pay the 700 refresh for 2 years left on the maintenance plan.
I did call the dealer I bought the car through and they agreed to reimburse me the costs for the oil change and cabin filter, but not vehicle inspection. Should I still have that done for 100? If not, does it void the warranty or have any implications down the road? Thanks for the responses! |

MY14 transfers in the states too. The change started with MY15 in the US.

I would recommend everyone take a few minutes to read that so they know what they're eligible for (or getting into before buying a pre-owned BMW). Note: This is for USA only, other countries may have different policies. July 1, 2014 was the cutoff for MY14/ 15 vehicles for maintenance plan transfer. |

As far as I know, the July 1, 2014 date was the cutoff for maintenance plan transfers. What this means is if your vehicle was sold (or lease started) under original owner prior to July 1, 2014, then any subsequent owners will get 4 years/ 50k miles maintenance included for free. (Keep in mind that Warranty is separate and always transfers/ applies to any owners as it is tied to car itself and not a particular owner). For MY15/16, ONLY the original owner gets the 4 year/ 50k miles maintenance included. Any subsequent owner has to pay to get the maintenance included as it does not automatically transfer. So, you should be good to get free maintenance as long as your car's maintenance plan was started prior to July 1, 2014. Hope that helps. If you still have questions, any dealer in the nation can look up your plan details with your last 6 digits of the VIN. |

So should I have the vehicle inspection performed? Is it worth the dealership going over the vehicle for 100 (and does that seem like a fair price)? Does it void the warranty if I don't have it done or any other negative consequences?
Thank you! |

That is offside, the maintenance was paid for by the original buyer in the purchase price. It's not like it was a free give-away when buying new.

The oil and filter is about $80; that’s BMW original oil and filter.
The cabin filters you can buy on Amazon for less than $100 for sure. |
