Question What changes for the MY18 X5?

My wife is about to buy a 2017 X5 but before taking the next step, I'd like to know what changes are going to be introduced in the 2018 models if any?

I tried Googling this but all I got was that it's going to have new tail lamps which her car seems to have from the pictures I've seen...... this is her car from the bimmer.work VIN:

And these are the tail lights she has:

Her car was manufactured in March 2017

2018 production begins August 1st. If there are any changes coming BMW Centers should have info towards the end of May or the first of June.

I was at my local dealer debating on a new m sport and asked about waiting for the 2018s to come out. They looked at me strangely and said there won't be a redesign....that it hadn't been long enough yet since the refresh in 2014. I pointed them toward a number of websites showing the "2018" x5 in camouflage. They had nothing to say other than they didn't think it would be updated. Their main rationale was the new x3 coming soon. Apparently you can't order any more 2017 x3s as the factories are readying for production of the x3 redesign. They said if the x5 was being redesigned the factories wouldn't still be taking orders for 2017s. Not sure if I believe them

The redesign will be a MY 2019 and released in calendar year 2018

MY 2018 will be the last year of the F15 (current generation)

That's correct. The new X3 is due out 2018 and will be shown this year. It makes sense since BMW has been teasing the X3 on social media. 2018 most likely new X5 been shown and 2019 will be on dealerships.

There is only ONE factory that produces the X3, X4, X5, X6, and the soon to be X7. Plant Spartanburg in Greer, SC. Factories does not apply to the production of the aforementioned X vehicles.

The 3rd Gen X3 is suppose to debut sometime in June 2017. Consumer production for it will begin in August 2017.

In August 2018 the 4th Gen X5 will begin production. The X7 should begin to come online afterwards. Both will be 2019 model years.

Typically... Dealers don't know much. Most of the time "we" as in this forum have more knowledge and information than they do. With that said, there hasn't been much rumors or talks yet except for a few camo X cars which could be the new X5, X7, or X3.

This is absolutely true.

I have had two separate experiences where the Sales rep at a dealership was sorely uninformed on specs for the cars on their own lot.

Definitely a good idea to do lots a research prior to speaking with sales reps, in order to avoid accepting a car that doesn't meet your requirements or spending time waiting for something that just isn't available for specific model.

i just looked at the latest pricelist from Germany (As of August 2017). Did not find anything different apart from 21" for the msport model and the parking space available with the improved RTTI. I know this price list really good so I think I would have spotted something. I did see that the facelift of the 4 series has new multifunctional display (same design) but looks to me higher resolution cluster than that of 2017 X5. So perhaps they upgrade it (doubt it) for the X5 as well and make it available for US market as well.

Ahh that's right, I checked my wife's X5's vin and it is made in SPARTANBURG.

Didn't even know that the USA makes BMWs, I thought it was only in Germany

Plant Spartanburg began production over twenty years ago. First producing the E36 318i for the U.S. market, then the only factory within BMW to produce the Z3, Z4 (first gen), every generation of the X5, first and second gen of the X6, the current X3 and X4. The X7 will be the newest model to be produced there as Plant Spartanburg is now BMWs largest factory.

Technically, "dealers" know way more than any online automotive spy source. To your point, the lower level employees and salespeople usually know less than the nerds on forums.

Even if that was true, all they care is for sale and will most likely misinform you in order to make the deal. We "nerds" at least will be truthful to you.

very true. They wouldn't wanna tell you when's the next model otherwise no one would buy the current ones unless there was a very special deal on them.
