Steering Wheel Noise

All, haven't been on in a while but hope everyone on the forum is doing well and getting ready for 2017! As it is winter here in Seoul, Korea, my steering wheel started to make squicky noise on startup (telescope down). Really annoying. Try to find some space to spray some lubricant but no luck. Do I really need to take my X5 in for a service? Anyone have any experience?

Happy new years and happy holidays.

Same issue here, would like to know what can be done. Makes squeeking type noise when lowering. Its very cold here so sort of expected but would still like to cure it.

Mine made noise last year and dealer greased it up.
Few weeks ago it came back, but it was time to return the car, so I didn't even bother.

Same for me and dealer tried to lubricate some areas to no real impact. I told them to not crack the column open further to truly fix the issue for fear of them introducing new squeaks in the process.
So I just live with the few times a year that it gets cold enough to make the noise.

I had this issue as well and recently I had the steering column replaced due to the fact it stopped going up and down...separate issue from the noise. It got replaced under warranty and all is good include the noise that has disappeared.

same exact thoughts as u, had the squeak since 1 month into ownership. didnt want dealer to open the colum in fear of them making things worst, so im just gonna live with the squeak

Thanks all. I will take it in and let you know. Most likely, they will put some grease...it is cold here in Seoul. Hate to live with it though.......more to follow.

Several threads addressing this same issue. Im having my steering column in my 2015 X5 replaced next week. There seems to be something wrong with a lot of X5 steering columns anyone got a technical explanation?

I had the same issue. Dealer tried to lubricate. Only fixed for a day. Had the steering column replaced last week and no issues yet.

Of course mine is out of warranty now and the squeaking begins. Has anyone replaced out of warranty and could share the costs? It annoys the hell out of me. It only happens when I turn off the car and I've actually started grabbing the telescoping button to interrupt it and stop the squeak.

Update: After warmer weather, mine stopped. Also, the noise got so bad, I just left the telescope position all the way up since my warranty wasn't covered where I live. Spring is here and no more noise. Going to D.C in Jul for two years so I will have the US dealer look at it.
