Seat stitching unraveling

My passenger front seat is coming apart from the stitching. Is this a warranty thing or should I expect resistance from the dealer?

Well an update I guess… dealer is submitting pictures to BMW NA to get approval to fix it in warranty.

Also my iDrive screen went blank today with "No Signal" but came back after a minute... like the computer crashed or something.

From the overhead pictures it's hard to see, but there about a half inch thread that's sticking out, so I think the knot at the end came undone. Not sure how they're going to fix this if they even will.

Easy for an upholstery guy to fix the stitching part (once the leather is in-hand), but getting the leather off the seat is not easy! A few hours of work for sure.

No true, they are made by Lear, but at the Duncan plant in SC. Here's a tag from a seat like the one the OP has in his F15

You're right. But the seat covers are made in Mexico. I can post a seat tag later.

That explains why the Dakota leather looks and feels so cheap! LOL

Right, not sure if I want them ripping the cover off the seat to fix it.

At the hourly rate, might be cheaper for BMW to just replace the seat I would think.

I doubt it. For reference, "simple" Z4 seats retail for about $2200 each in base configuration. And, I do not see complete F15 seats listed at all in EPC. Just components. Figure a guy like me would take 2 hours to get the cover off and 2 hours back on. 4 total x $125/hr and it's doable to fix. As long as they take their time and use all new hog rings you will never know it's been fixed.

that is exactly what they did to both of my seats for my 335, a show room model. i discovered the leather was scratched from people getting in and out of the car a week after taking owner ship, the scratch was very very minor but i brought it up to the service adviser. they pulled the whole cover off and replaced it with a brand new cover, but the thing is, after they did this, the leather was not as tight as before.

Well if it turns out they are replacing the cover (or fixing it) and it's not tight or misaligned, I will complain some more.

They already misaligned my fenders when they fixed my washer fluid system (they have since aligned it properly), but I don't have high hopes. At least the staff is pretty nice.

EDIT: Looks like they are replacing my seat cover. Of course my steering wheels doesn't move up and down anymore. *sigh*
