Is coding needed for rear camera replacement?

Hi, the rear camera stopped working on my 2014 x5 and the iDrive screen shows "rear camera malfunction".

If I install a new rear camera, does it require coding for thr new camera to work? Or would it work immediately without any coding?

Thanks

You might also want to check the wiring. With my front one there was an internal break in the wire. I replaced the section and was all good. I did buy a used camera of eBay once I fixed the wire to test it. It was plug and play. No coding or calibration was necessary. I assume it would be similar for the rear one.
