For diagnostics I just connect via Wifi (modBMW adapter), and have the VM set to bridge. You will get an apipa on the host, vm and your good.

Some of the newer build 4.33+ need a license/activation step and the dev did say he "doesn't" support VMs. I haven't messed around to test, mine is still 4.32.15

Here is the install process(not my vid). You don't need the optional German DB, and pick local network for connection.

I agree my view maybe biased, but for $500. If you end up doing any software update/long term work. Could be put towards a PSU, as that is mandatory.
I also run mine in parraell VM. Best is that way especially if you have Mac.

Yeah, I am looking to get the PSU tomorrow, do you have the 30A PSU or the 90A? I saw the 90A will require a 30A connection, which I don't think I have in this house and I lease, so I don't have a desire to run a 30A circuit, so I hope a 30A PSU should be enough, the battery is only 6 months old

The more common ones guys use hear are the MST-80/90+, The PowerMax PM3/4, or the Schumacher(70A).

The reset get pricy. $$$$

But again, this is only if you plan on doing long session and full ISTA push updates.

I would add an endorsement for this one, as well:

IOTA DLS-90-IQ4 Power Supply.pdf

It has proven reliable over the past three years - sometimes for hours of use. Just add a set of jumper cables and you are golden for a very reasonable price!

The battery charger will not provide current flow support for coding or other long ignition on activity. I have used PowerMax and Iota RV power supplies for more than 20 years. I can't recommend one over the other but I think IOTA price is higher than PowerMax now. The purpose built units for automotive will often have selections for charging or power supply. Many, maybe most, RV power supplies will have a jumper to make it a manual charger or you buy an accessory module with temp sensing that does auto charging and regulates charge with regard to temperature. PowerMax on Amazon is $155 for 55A and $195 for 100A. I have a older 70A and a couple of 55A. I have never had any issues with either but there are things you do that do raise the short term consumption and risk a weaker battery not covering those loads for some of the activities possible with coding.
