HUD display retrofit

Hi there, I'm driving an X5 2014 model. Is there any way to retrofit HUD display?

Everything is possible for the right amount of money. You can retrofit the HUD but you will need to replace windshield, dashboard, install the HUD unit and code it in.

Oh okay. Thanks! But looks like an expensive affair.

It would certainly be an expensive affair. Additionally, it's important to note that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto navigation guidance do not appear on the HUD. The only navigational guidance that is capable of appearing on the HUD is iDrive Navigation.

While I'm unsure if you have CarPlay or Android Auto available in your vehicle, this is an important point to make.

If you wear polarized sunglasses the HUD is useless

Agreed, however I love it at night to switch songs and for a quick speed check.

In my opinion, it's a "nice to have". Certainly not a "need to have".

I added a head up display to a ‘19 Audi A5 I owned. I used the existing non-hud dash (it was some work, yes) and a HU display unit from a wrecked vehicle but it worked out very well. Parts weren’t expensive but it wasn’t a job for the faint of heart. Coding should be relatively straightforward with E-sys. Windshield is a must - it was the most costly part of the Audi job; X5 screens are more expensive.

Best of luck if you undertake it.
