Question on battery replacement for SOS emergency battery reach end of life.
Okay did my research read what I could find here and other internet sites.
Found out the location for my 2017 the telemetry modules is in the ceiling below the sharkfin based on the battery style. I went and got the dealer to look my part umber up based on my VIN number. So the part number I got was 84 10 2 447 710 without the little pig tail so that another sign of were the units located. So my question is has anyone that has replaced this themselves have any secrets to getting to battery easily other than drooping the whole headliner or most of it ? I was able to get a peek at mine by pulling the headliner down some from the center back and unclipping the single snap in the center. But its really hard to do more than feel around for the door open slot. and mine seems to behind a second module. I did shove my cell phone back there and got a picture to confirm the part number, so I do know that the module is the right one now. WTF was BMW thinking to put this up here with a serviceable part like a battery that they know will eventually die . Well open to ideas.. I may have to go digging for my scope camera in the garage next to get a better look back there next if no one has any other good methods or ideas. I really didn't want to remove all the trim pieces to drop that headliner all the way down. |

Headliner removal isn't that hard. I had to do it on an E70 to replace a corroded roof rail

Yeah, I rather not pull it all down if not needed
No one has any type of DIY or write up on this ? everyone must of been under warranty when they had their failure FYI - Dealer quoted me 5 hour job if its in the headliner any 2 if its just in the boot area. |

If you were searching for info...this is probably why you're not finding much info about swapping out the battery. 2G service ended a few years ago and 3G service ended in Feb/2022....the emergency call (SOS) feature ended with the discontinuation of 2G & 3G connectivity.

I was able to get a model number off mine and seems I was lucky based on model # looks like it maybe 4G unit. ATM-01 R2-US-4GW with a date of 11/16/16. Plus I able to still place a call with it so I assume its still working now we are well past the EOL date. |

And you raise a good point about the component's battery. Will we get warnings even though the service has been terminated? (I hope not).

Noticed my interior motion sensors stopped working randomly around the time the 3g went out. Is there a possibility the update messed them up or that it’s just bad? Everything else works and is on so seems like the sensors should still be good. I’ve read about rain leaking through sun roof could be a possibility but I haven’t had any wet floor boards. How hard is it to get the gas unhooked I read one board and it said special tool was needed? Error code given was 8015AA. 2015 x5 35i 96k first issue I’ve really had with the car.

If you tried to activate the interior motion sensors…it takes at least 20 seconds after the vehicle has been locked before they will activate the alarm. That’s because they go through a reference run when first initiated…when the reference run is completed is when you can then activate the IMS.

Yes I tried setting off but couldn't get it to go. Its weird because everything else up there works just fine besides the sos call but thats been disabled and I get that error as well for the comb box being dead now. I gave the wrong code it is 801500 I think it says one or 2 channels is defective. My clown nose when I lock it blinks real fast for 2 seconds then goes to normal.

The easiest way to set off the interior motion sensor is with leaving someone inside.
If you have a dog, put him inside the car, lock it and walk away. Give it a few second and it should go off. |

Again, to set off the interior motion sensor…you have to lock the door and WAIT 20 seconds, I would say the easiest way to do that it to roll a window or two down…then lock the car…WAIT 20 seconds then stick your arm inside the cabin and wave it around.
If the clown nose (red LED status light) flashes quickly before slowing down to the normal flash…something is wrong. One or more of the DWA (anti-theft alarm siren system) monitors is remaining open:
