Insurance - UK BMW X6 30d

Hi, I am very interested in purchasing a 2017 X6 30d in the UK from the main dealer. However there are some mods (I would class minor) predominately the M performance pack (front & rear spoiler, rear side ‘diffuser’ and rear valance) with black mirrors and gloss front grill. Also appears to have the upgraded brakes (given blue callipers) and alloys although the used car sales executive at BMW seems to think these are options added at point vehicle was new.

This is the first time I have owned a vehicle of this calibre, price and with mods. Insurance (I’m 28) seems to be sky high (£2k+ vs. £600 for 2L Audi A5 currently) which I am not prepared to pay each and every year. Does anyone have any suggestions please on how to get more competitive quotes (I.e. nearer £1k p.a.). Many thanks in advance as I want to become a BMW X6 (F16) enthusiast like many of you !!

Regards

Have you tried all the UK insurance comparison web sites. I had the full m performance kit on my M50d and didn't appear to affect the insurance price as it didn't alter the performance only aesthetics. There again I don't think I ever disclosed this
As a young driver you are going to pay a premium unfortunately especially for a high spec vehicle like the X6. By comparison I was paying between £500 and £600 a year for my SUV, full comp, business miles, no claims or points but I am in my late 50's.
I'm now driving an X7 M50d and the insurance costs were no higher to my surprise

Thanks for your response - I tried the comparison websites and that seems to be the most expensive option - I am now using a couple of specialist brokers (for modified cars) albeit haven’t received a response from them yet. Whats more frustrating is that the same X6 (not declaring these mods) the insurance would be £700 which I am willing to pay . The car in question is a really nice example, adaptive lights, B&O speakers, individual interior so I’m tempted to purchase and then just take off the mods (albeit not sure what that process will be - particularly for upgraded brakes?!). The sales executive at BMW if not working today but going to ask if it something that they’re workshop would do a point of sale?

The mods you mentioned are cosmetic. I wouldn't declare them. I'm just not seeing an insurance adjuster denying a claim because you "painted" *wink wink* your calipers blue and your mirror caps black. Of course they would only pay out for standard parts in the event of a crash.

I fully agree - wish I didn’t know / read the t&c’s as not sure I can sleep at night with my partner driving around the car which isn’t ‘properly’ insured. A moral (and potentially legal) dilemma!!
