Air Suspension Fun

Hi All,

I know there are loads of threads on the lovely Air Suspension system BMW put in our cars.

My story, like most others, i I came out one morning the car was sagging, Start it up and up she went.... until she wouldn't anymore. I ended replacing both bags with the Arnott replacements and thought I won! Up she went and up she stayed...for a month.

I have now replaced the Compressor and Valve block, Replaced the Ride Height Sensors, went through calibration with ISTA, and replaced both the 5A and 40A fuses. I can get it to go up through ISTA but nothing I do can get the driver's side to stay up for more than a few minutes. There is no air leaking from the bag, I don't THINK there is air leaking from the brand new compressor and I am giving up at this point. Which brings me to the following question;

Has anyone replaced their Air Suspension with a traditional Coil Kit?

I found this DIY kit on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/133221097359
the seller seems to have sold a bunch of these kits.

I imagine the coding to remove the air suspension isn't too complex. I am at wits end with this whole issue already. If anyone could chime in it would be much appreciated. I AM DESPERATE at this point.

Bump. I am considering this conversion as well. Replaced my airbags in Jan with Arnott and one side is now dropping 6 months in. Looking for advice from others who have done this.

These same ‘kits’ are widely used on the E70 which is very similar to ours. I see no reason why this wouldn’t work. The shocks won’t need to be changed either. Bilstein uses the same shock for both the air springs and the regular springs which tells me they are very similar if not identical.

I wonder if it’s possible to get it with OE springs? You could of course just piece it together separately using part numbers on RealOEM.

Sorry to hear about your issues, OP. I’m about the replace my air bags. Yay!
