Navtool Apple Carplay add to F15
Anyone have experience with this? I would LOVE to have Apple Carplay in my 2015 X5, and this seems like the only way to do it. Looks like a reasonably priced solution and quick install...I would drop the $500 if I heard positive feedback.

We have CarPlay in our Escalade.
I can't say I'd pay extra for it as we rarely use it and haven't found it to be must-have or even like-to-have when we shop for vehicles. I guess we just wouldn't miss it if it were to disappear. If you do pull the trigger, let us know how it goes!

Thanks so far for your responses...
I really enjoy the interface of Carplay, and obviously the integration with Apple. I feel underwhelmed with iDrive, and quite frankly, the maps are outdated and the traffic is never right. I had asked my dealership to do an update before hitting 50K, but it was like pulling teeth and they wouldn't do it. I did another retrofit, putting the Digital Dash Infocenter from the X6 into the X5 and I am really satisfied with the outcome - but that was OEM. This is aftermarket (thus my concern) and BMW only has a carplay option in the '16+ with the newer iDrive/touchscreen. I will likely do it, was hoping someone else had taken the plunge first. I will keep you up to date and post a build thread once I have done it. |

I’m certain it will be a different experience than if it were to have touchscreen. The controller in the BMW is fantastic IMHO and I wouldn’t want to keep reaching over to touch the screen anyway. The way the solution showed on the video is that they fully integrate the wheel and back button for full control capabilities. It ALSO provides full video mirroring, which would be nice to have the news on while I’m waiting to go into sales meetings, etc...

I have Apple carplay on my other car and love it. I do hate that it is touchscreen because it is hard to control it versus if you had a knob like the idrive. While driving you try to touch the screen and it isn't steady... it would be better if I could rest my palm on something while I touch the screen..

I have a car play, in in all honesty... i cannot make myself to use it. I tried to give it a chance to see if, may be, it grows on me, but heck no. As far as map concern, i would rather pay small fee for latest BMW maps on the market. Check the vendors list.
